Classic Car Definition From Wiki

Classic car is a term frequently used to describe an older car, but the exact meaning is subject to differences in opinion. Some are very inclusive, considering any older car in fine condition a classic. Others, including the Classic Car Club of America, maintain that 1948 is the last year for a car to be a classic.

Benz and Daimler: inventors of the car

Who invented the car? The French claim that Edouard Delamare Deboutteville and Leon Malndin built the first car. Everyone else believes it was Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler. These two started the well known companies of Mercedes Benz and Daimler Chrysler.

Benz's first car was a 3 wheeled engine that ran on gas. It first ran in Germany in 1885 (and the first car accident happened right after...ha ha ...guess the invention of car accident lawyers soon followed). He got a patent for his car invention in 1886. The car went a measly 10 miles per hour...slower than a horse which can sprint up to 35 mph.

Improvements were made on engine power and speed and finally the car started being manufactured in 1893. In 1899 a 4 wheeled car was finally made.

The first four wheeled car had passenger seats facing backwards like a coach for horses. The driver sat behind the passengers! The engine was in the back. Cars did not really look like what we think of as cars until 1903.
