CLEAR high speed WiMAX Internet

After learning about what some of the WiMAX towers look like here Las Vegas, Nevada, I began snapping a few pictures of them. You can view them full-size if you want to really see what a CLEAR WiMAX tower looks like in my town.

This WiMAX modem is made by Motorola for use at home in a home network environment. Even though this device is wireless, it doesn't have the capabilities of a router. WiMAX can use NLOS (non line of site) technology to communicate with a tower in addition to LOS methods.

After months of using and tinkering with this WiMAX modem I can say that my experience so far has been nothing but positive. So far, I've had no problems using the modem on multiple computers at three different locations. Connecting it to a router was quick and easy as the modem was great at configuring the connection on all 3 different routers I tested it with.

According to the Clearwire market list, complete Clear WiMAX High-Speed Internet is only available in some states. Their plan is to have CLEAR WiMAX Internet services available for 120 million people in just a few years.

If your city isn't listed, be patient because Clear WiMAX Internet will eventually be available in all 50 states and with a little bit of luck, worldwide. Just remember, in order to get the cheapest price on CLEAR WiMAX you have to order online.

Here are a few terms regarding WiMAX Internet signals. Knowing these basic, frequently used WiMAX terms has helped me to better understand how WiMAX works and what makes the technology differ from Wi-Fi.

As a WiMAX user, you'll see these terms used in the titles of some device model names, inside the instruction manuals, and pretty much everywhere in between.

If you're trying to obtain a stronger WiMAX signal or just somebody who thinks WiMAX is interesting and wants to learn more, take a quick glance at these terms.

CPE - customer premises equipment.  Equipment located at the customer/subscriber location and connected with a carriers telecommunication channels. My CLEAR WiMAX modem model number is CPEi 25150 and is made by Motorola.

FRESNEL ZONE - The zone between two antennas created by radio waves. Looks similar to the shape of an ellipsoid or a really long narrow cigar shaped football.

LOS - line of sight.  LOS is used in the WiMAX community for describing the type of signal that travels over a direct path without obstructions. Obtaining LOS with a WiMAX tower may increase your signal.

NLOS - non line of sight.  NLOS is also used for describing a certain type of WiMAX signal. A NLOS WiMAX signal travels by reflecting, diffraction, and scattering techniques. This is what allows WiMAX to travel great distance.

OFDM - orthogonal frequency division multiplying.  When a receiver can reject signals with the exact same minimum frequency spacing so they don't interfere with each other. More of an advanced WiMAX term that was added here because of it's importance.

This online Wi-MAX speed test is quick and easy. Start with this site first. It only measures up to 10MB per second. Test your Wi-MAX speed at Bandwidth Place, a basic online Wi-MAX and wireless Internet speed tester.



Next online speed test website that you can use to test your CLEAR Wi-MAX Internet speed is called SpeakEasy Speed Test. This one is a little more detailed. Test your speed in 8 different cities.
