New Features
The Length of the campaign will be comparable to the first CoD4 game about 6-10hour total as stated by Infinity Ward CCO Jason West. This should provide the player plenty of shoot em' up fun!

The Missions in the game will include Russia, a military base in Kazakhstan, a desert area in Afghanistan, and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

One of the coolest new features is the ability to dual wield handguns. Just like in Halo 2!


AI Improvements
Infinity Ward has addressed the issue of enemies that continually re-spawn at different points of a level. They demonstrated that the game engine uses a "dynamic AI" that replaced the re-spawn system and allows enemies to act more independently.

These improved AI enemies are designed to actively seek and drive the player forward through a level, and can break away from their set behaviors like following a designated route in order to attack more quickly. Now the player can't depend on an enemy being in the same location because enemies will behave differently each time a level is played.


New Cooperative Mode - "Special Ops!"
There are independent missions similar in design to the "Mile High Club" epilogue mission from the previous release, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare.

The missions will take place in a many of the locations from the campaign, but are not related to story of the campaign itself.

Special Ops mode can also be played as single player or two player co-op play, and can be played with another player split-screen locally, or online.

Special Ops has cool new levels like a snowmobile race between the two players, one player provides air-support from an AC-130 while the other gamer handles operations on the ground, capturing an enemy compound and searching areas for and eliminating 40 or more enemies at a time.

There are four groups of missions which are Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta and can be played at three difficulty levels, regular, hardened and veteran.

When you complete a mission you earn stars. There are three stars available for each mission: one star for the mission on normal difficulty, two for hardened, and three for veteran. Once enough stars are earned, more missions can be unlocked! You can earn a total of 69 stars, making 23 missions earned in total.

At the end of each mission, the statistics screen displays how long the player took to complete the level and the number of kills scored, and other stats.


Online Game Play
The online game play of Modern Warfare 2 keeps the same experience points and unlockable reward system of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but also brings some new features too!

In addition to the new weapons and equipment, there are 15 different kill streak rewards that can be unlocked and selected by the player.

For example: the ability to receive a supply drop after 4 frags, a predator missile strike after 5 frags, and to call in a strike by an AC-130 gunship after achieving 11 frags in a row.

Now you can upgrade your perks to a "pro version", for the "real deal" players!

A really cool new addition to the online multi-player, is in-game host migration. This means that if the host leaves the game, the players will remain (instead of being reset to the game lobby like in the first CoD4). Then a new host is selected and the game resumes.

There's also the new addition of a third person mode which can be used in certain game types for multi-player.


Online Game Modes
Free For All, Search and Destroy, Demolition, Domination, Team Death Match, and Capture the Flag.


Downloadable Content
There will be two downloadable map packs released for Modern Warfare 2.

Microsoft stated at E3 2009 that these map packs would be made available for the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live before they would be released for other platforms. Robert Bowling said that community response to the game and the first two downloadable map packs would be used in designing other potential map packs as well.


Characters and Storyline
At the E3 2009 show they showed an early campaign mission called "Cliffhanger". Where the character Sergeant "Roach" Sanderson along with Captain "Soap" MacTavish infiltrated a Russian base in the Tian Shan mountain range in Kazakhstan and escaped on snowmobiles!

In campaign mode your character is named Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, a member of an elite, multinational commando unit called Task Force 141.

From the first CoD4 Sergeant "Soap" MacTavish, returns as a non-playable character who was promoted to captain in the Special Air Service. "Soap" is now the head of the Task Force and "Roach's" new superior.

The 3rd person on the Task Force is named "Ghost". This mysterious character conceals his face with a skull-imprinted balaclava.

Modern Warfare 2 is set several years after the the first CoD4 game. A radical Russian organization has returned to power lead by of Vladimir Makarov, a former cohort of Imran Zakhaev from the first game.

Vladimir Makarov has made public the death of Zakhaev as an act of martyrdom to gain support for his cause, making him able to build a strong power base in Russia over the years.

Fearful of Makarov's growing influence, the global community established Task Force 141 to counter the threat posed by the resurgent Ultranationalists.


Limited Editions
There will be three limited editions available in the US for the true fans of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2:

The Prestige Edition has all of the elements of the Hardened Edition, but also includes real fully-functioning night vision goggles, imprinted with the Modern Warfare 2 logo and a stand modeled after the head of character "Soap" MacTavish!

The Hardened Edition consists of the game and manual packaged in a steel book case, an art book, and a token to download the original Call of Duty from Xbox Live Arcade or the PlayStation Store.

The Standard Edition consists of the game and instructional manual, and will be the only version available for the Microsoft Windows platform.
