Rare and Key Date Certified Coins

Coin grading services provide coin collectors with a standard for determining the condition grade of a rare or key date coin and reduce the chances of a collector purchasing a counterfeit coin. These coins are graded and sealed in a air tight plastic contain with a label identifying the coin and condition grade. These type of coins are referred to as "slabbed coins" by coin collectors and coin investors. This type of official coin grading by a reputable service is an effort to bring more confidence to investors and collectors of rare coins. Slight differences in a rare coin's condition or grade can affect the value of the coin by thousands of dollars. Many thanks to our friends at USA Coin Auctions

How Coin Grading Services Work

Key Date CoinA coin grading service is a third party grading service for grading rare coins to recognized industry standards, and then encapsulates the coin, along with an insert describing the coin's grade, referred to as slabbing. Grading services are said to belong to one of three tiers, based on the market's perception of their reliability. A coin is submitted by an indi vidual along with a fee and then returned to the individual with the coin's condition grade. Top rated coin grading services include PCGS, NGC, Anacs and ICG, they represent the "gold standard" in coin grading.

PCGS Certified Coins

PCGS Certified CoinProfessional Coin Grading Service, PCGS graded coins make a wonderful addition to any coin collection. PCGS seals each coin they grade in a permanent hard plastic case and the slabbed coin cannot be removed without destroying the case. PCGS will not grade a coin if it has been damaged or would otherwise be considered a problem coin.

PCGS graded coins will usually command a premium price over other slabbed coins graded by other coin grading services when it comes time to sell your coins.
