KIDS 2020 : their Visions & Strategies for a Preferred Future

Kids 2020 creates meaning for me. Learning the role that values play in making choices - and putting them to work in creating value - is the heart of Kids 2020. We are working to help children and parents introduce a new value system - where our worth as human beings is defined by more than just money.

We've come a long way in 2007. We've been gathering a force of believers with expertise in their areas to help us bring Kids 2020 to life. With the potential to change the world, this is such an ambitious undertaking. During 2008, we will start the learning program by setting up "discovery rooms".

Follow us as we take Kids 2020 into the world. You can also contribute in your preferred way. Within a few weeks, you can visit our website to participate. Please be patient while we're under construction - building the web infrastructure takes time.

Blogging about culture emerging from collaboration and creativity

In my blog, you'll find links to how science, technology, education, and business converge in worlds of communication, collaboration and creativity through people and their media.

The convergence of cultures and disciplines fascinates me. I am continually in pursuit of figuring out how everything is connected. If this also intrigues you, join the discussion where it interests you.

Some of my favorite tunes

honey for the soul

Ottmar Liebert's music holds a special place in my heart. He combines sounds and rhythms from New Mexico into Nouveau Flamenco style. Listen to one of the recent tunes he's written to get a taste.

Feb 2008: "I am spending a lot of time working on my next album with Luna Negra. The recording should be finished by the end of March - in time for an early Summer album release, I hope."

You can catch him when he's on Tour with the Luna Negra Quartet:
- Ottmar - flamenco and electric guitars
- Jon Gagan - bass guitar and keyboards
- Dave Bryant - percussion
- Stephen Duros - flamenco and electric guitars and keyboard

You can follow what he's doing on his blog .

An entertaining speaker....

when you're looking for someone to really engage people...

I really enjoy speaking at conferences because I learn so much from people and have such a great time. My expertise is taking really complicated ideas and making them easier for people to understand them. Physics, technology, the role of values, business and media - wrapped up in an interactive communication style. People get to ask questions to build on the topic and make it relevant to the audience.

Any topic can be engaging and fun if people get a chance to particpate and have some fun. Play, learn, share, create something new - toys and media.

Measuring the Value of Design in Services
April 2, 1pm EDT

Key Points:
-- "Triple Bottom Line" accounting. Analyzing the economic, social and environmental consequences of service, both for provider and user.

-- GVA - "Gross Value Added." A measure used to explain value creation in the design of public services, including contribution to local and national economy.

-- The Service Usability index. A live|work method that measures the quality of services from a user point of view. The method combines ratings for the service proposition, experience, usability and accessibility to produce comparisons of service experience.

Questions for participant consideration:
+ How does measurement of service quality differ from products?

+ What types of indicators are useful in order to legitimize a concept in the early stages of the design process?

+ What are useful parameters to measure for the design buyer - and for the customer?

3rd SOL Global Forum

THE 3RD SOL GLOBAL FORUM: MUSCAT, OMAN - APRIL 13-17, 2008

There are three questions that are at the core of the Forum.

-- How can we promote inclusiveness and exchange in bridging growing cultural and social divides?

-- What is the role of the corporation in building sustainable, local solutions to problems of globalization?

-- How can we, as a SoL community, engage our collective intelligence to address today's challenging issues?

Everyone needs a coach

particularly in a mediated society with all this technology

Part of HOW I do what I do includes coaching people...helping people create virtuous value streams. I help people figure out what purpose they can serve in certain situations and what roles they can play.

This means developing a personal strategy for getting yourself in the right place and doing what you love in the way that naturally suits you.

For a long time, I only did this with top management. Now, I'm working with younger people who want to lead an enriched life. It's fun and rewarding for me. I get a chance to learn more about some fantastic people, which gives me the edge when trying to find talent for projects.

A few pointers...
  1. life happens in moments
  2. ask directions
  3. learn how to ask the right questions
  4. believe that the right person with the right directions will just appear at the right moment in time
  5. learn how to recognize that person
  6. pay that person for their contribution to moving you further down your path in whatever form you can - value is a deal made between you and that person

Science of Consciousness

the brain versus the mind contradiction

There is a world of study going on where scientists, philosophers, theologists, psychologists and many others are seeking ways to understand our minds, our thoughts, our emotions, our awareness, our other senses that go beyond the body.

This is a world that has fascinated me since childhood.

I will over time build on this topic with links to knowledge bases and projects that will intrigue you.

In the meantime, have a read through David Chalmers blog.

Francisco Varela also made great contributions to this study. Read The View from Within: First-person Approaches to the Study of Consciousness.

Quantum Entanglement Captures my Interest...

and keep me fascinated with physics

Whether it's the possibility of teleportation, quantum computers, or encrypting information...the answers lie in the discoveries into quantum entanglement.
The God Effect: Quantum Entanglement, Science's Strangest Phenomenon
New book, just released in June 2006.

"Clegg does an excellent job of explaining this complex situation in nontechnical terms; he details the many experiments that have consistently suggested that entanglement is real."
Scientists demonstrate quantum nature of entanglement swapping
March 31, 2006 - Supercomputers and qubits
"Physicists are entangling already entangled particles. In entanglement swapping, one particle of an entangled pair becomes entangled with a third particle, which itself becomes entangled with the other particle in the first pair, even though the two never interact."
Dave's Collection of All Things Quantum
Instead of just being able to wrap bits of information around each other and move them them about, we can now wrap ideas or concepts together. This moves us closer to a quantum world - where are is possible.

Dave's site is rich in explanation.
Quantum Entanglement
What could computers do with information if governed by secret ways of communicating?

Books on Consciousness

Consciousness is fascinating. It helps us understand how we connect our mind of thinking and believing to the more physical manifestations of that.

Evolutionary Leadership for the New Millennium

Are you interested in a series of masters courses for executives:
"What they forgot to teach you in business school"
.

Instead of teaching at the graduate school again, I decided to take the content I teach and repackage it for execs in business. I want to make the content relevant for today's networked economy - and put it into the context of personal performance. People needs the knowledge and skills for now and the future - not old case studies from the past that no longer have relevance.

"Evolutionary Leadership for the New Millennium" is a masters course list that delivers a performance advantage rather than a diploma.

Instead of a lecture style, the courses require participants to bring their work into their learning environment. They receive coaching, engage in a more interactive role with knowledge building and sharing, and explore building communities of practice from their engagements with the topics.

Format:
-- series of sessions with lectures, round tables, workshops and coaching - plus, time to network
-- supported with online blog, wiki and forum

Deliverable: Performance advantage instead of a diploma

If you are interested in participating in these courses, please contact me.

Course List:
  • The Roles of Values in Business - How They Drive Behavior and Choices
  • Vision! It's Connection to Purpose
  • Re-Purposing your Talents & Skills in a New Context
  • The Difference between the Brand, its Operating System & the Business Model
  • Capturing Value in a Network Economy
  • What is Socio-Economic Development
  • Collaboration - The Secret to Innovation
  • Wiring Up the Brand without the Wires
  • How to Build Scenarios
  • Creating Meaning at Work
  • Learning How to Leverage the Assets of the Group

Traveling with my sister through time...

...back in the old days when we decorated everything

Do you have a sister story?

A sister is your conscience - your reflection. She will make sure that you get that reality check.

A sister is also your playmate. She understands why you want to travel all over England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland looking for Merlin's trail - and she'll go on that journey with you.

A sister loves the idea that each of your socks is a different color.

A sister will play along when someone mixes the two of you up and thinks you're the other one.

My sister is wonderful, smart, charming and funny - and never gets enough kudos for all the good stuff she does that nobody ever knows she does.
