Many rock fans easily recognize the group ColdPlay. This London-based rock group is fairly new, arriving on the scene in 1998, and normally perform with the likes of U2, Jeff Buckley, Travis, and other similar groups. They also had a performance with the legendary Johnny Cash before his death, and the song was a phenomenal success in both the country and rock genres. Their sound is officially called alternative rock, much like popular bands Oasis and Radiohead.ColdPlay is made up of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion. The band became famous for its stance on drugs, and one of the band rules is that any member caught using hard core drugs will be immediately fired. A second rule dictates that profits are shared equally, in comparison to bands like REM and U2. These rules and others labeled the band a democracy, and the members are getting along better with this approach.
To date, the band has released four albums and performed all over the world. They are active members in different charity organizations and at one time donated 10% of their earnings to charity. The Make Trade Fair campaign was one of the most popular charity organizations that the band contributed to and collaborated with, until the dissolution of the campaign in 2005.
