Chapter 24 - State Lotteries

The question here is - is lottery gambling? A game of chance. Why is the government in the business of promoting gambling? The scam is that it is often promoted as a way to help Education. Who can deny improving education for our kids? The problem is that this money raised is not reserved for Education use only. It is put into the General fund. The other facts are the awful payout and the price of promotion. Any game of chance has a probability of win loose. The payout for most lotteries is dismal. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning. If the funds were really needed, it should be paid for by increased general taxes. Some people are prone to addiction. Gambling can be a destructive influence. I'm not supporting legalizing gambling. It should be offered by private enterprises. The government should not be involved in this venture no matter how profitable it is. It is just common sense. Remember the constitution - promote the general welfare. I don't think lotteries comes under that category.
