Ah, the life of the Internet Marketer. It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it :-) .
Are you interested in getting into Internet Marketing? Maybe you're already doing it but you're struggling to make a buck. Maybe you're really skeptical and believe that there is no bloody way the little guy can make money online.
You might be thinking... sure it's easy if you have a lot of cash to pay people that are experts to write content for some hungry profitable niches that you know nothing about. Or sure it's easy to make a lot of money if you have a list of 100,000 people to pitch to. Oh and while I'm talking about lists, they can just ask their 10 IM buddies to send out a quick email to promote their brand spanking new product to THEIR 100,000 member lists too!
Well come on people, do you really think that's all it takes to make a mitt full of cash with Internet Marketing?
Well, actually you're not too far off. It could very well happen this way.

But they never gave up and they kept on trying different things until something worked. Then all they did was repeat the process.
Once they started making money, they would re-invest this money in tools to make their tasks faster and they would start going to these big IM conventions.
See where I'm going with this? They had nothing to begin with... they struggled but never ever gave up... they stumbled on a technique or niche market that made them some money... they then looked for and tested more techniques or tested a new niche market... once they started bringing in enough money, they started going to IM events to learn new money making techniques and to meet other Internet Marketers.
This leads to more money, more IM friends and JV partners. It's a great way to build your business.
If they can do it, there is no reason why you can't do it. Plus you have an advantage... today there is so much more information available to help you make money online. Most of the big names in IM didn't have all this information available to them and had to figure it all out through trial and error.

Video #2: "How to Pan for Gold"
You are now at the stage where you need to choose a market that you want to actually promote. Before you start jumping on affiliate products and trying to make money online, you need to find that hungry crowd.
Remember we mentioned this on the last video that you need to find a hungry crowd. That is a group of people that have a particular problem. They have a question they want answering, they have a problem that they want the solution to and they are willing to spend money in order to get that solution.
Well, you are not actually giving them the solution unless you are creating the product yourself. What you are doing though is sending them to a product owner's website so that you get the actual commission. So in order to find that hungry crowd you need to do what we call market research.
Market Research
You have probably heard that phrase before. You do not need to be scared off by this phrase. It does not mean investing thousands of dollars or even a hundred dollars, or even any money whatsoever. You can do the following market research in about 10 to 15 minutes. You can do more if you want. You can even do less.
The idea is that you are panning for gold. You are trying to find the hot markets where the money is, where those hungry people are that need a solution to their problem and they are willing to spend money in order to get that solution.
DMOZ
So one of the places that you can start is the Open Directory Project, also called DMOZ. You can get to this website, it's www.dmoz.org.
And you can see down here, it has over 4 million sites and it is the largest human edited directory of the web. Unlike a search engine, this is not compiled just by a bit of software that goes off and grabs all the sites, this is actually put together by people. The types of sites that get in are usually of a higher quality.
What you can use this site for is to find markets and find the people within those markets and see what problems they are having to see if you can spot a hot market to promote affiliate products into.
Let's just say for the sake of argument that you are going to be promoting in the golf market. Now if you are just starting out and you do not really know whatsoever which market to choose, let me just put two things to you that are very, very important.
Profit
The first thing you have got to consider is profit.
Now I know this sounds obvious, but you must consider profitability of the market you are choosing. Is it something that people are going to spend money in? Have people in this market actually got any money at all? Have they got spending power? Have they got buying power?
So make sure it is a market that has money. I am going to show you how you can measure that in a moment.
Passion
Secondly, on top of profitability, you also need to think about your passion.
You might have heard this a lot on the internet. People say, "Go after your passion and the rest will follow." I think that is true to a certain extent, but if you are passionate about knitting jumpers for miniature hedgehogs then you are not going to make much money. You might be passionate about it, but you are not going to bring in the profit.
You have got to combine these two, something that is profitable and ideally that you have passion in, or at least an interest in, or a vague idea of. The emphasis is in the profit.
One of the best areas that people get into as newbies when they are trying to make money online, and I recommend that you look into this area as well, is the actual internet marketing market - selling to other internet marketers, how to make money online. It is a great market to get into because people will always spend money to make money.
Remember, you do not have to be the expert in this. You are just recommending other people's products in this space. Think about that, but also remember that it has got to be a market that has lots of profit in it for you to extract, and also ideally, but not essentially, maybe something that you have a passion in or an interest in.
Finally on this, let me just say just because there is a gap in the market does not mean there is always a market in the gap.
If you spot something that other people are not promoting, ask yourself why? Is it because people have missed out, or is it simply because there is no money to be made in that market?

Start Home Based Business - A Gap in the Market Does not Mean There is Always a Market in the Gap
Consider this, just because there is a gap in the market does not mean there is always a market in the gap.
If you start a home based business and spot something that other people are not promoting, ask yourself why? Is it because people have missed out, or is it simply because there is no money to be made in that market?
Let us go to a favorite website of mine for market research dmoz.org and have a look at how you can use it.
Research method
As a start home based business example, I am going to go and look at the golf market. What I want to do is get close to the people in that market and find out their issues and problems so I can start trying to find products to promote to those people to help solve their particular problems.
What you do is you find the relevant category. For golf, start out in the sports category. We click on that. That then takes us to this listing of sports, and you can see down here there is a listing here for golf. We click on that. Then we get taken to this section.
Chats and forums
What I want you to do for your particular area is find this link. Every area will have this link, chats and forums. Chats and forums are places where people go to talk about their interests, so there are going to be chats and forums for pretty much every interest area. Let's go and click on that and I will show you what that shows us.
This then gives us a list of forums where golfers go online to talk about their interests. This is the endgame. Once you get to this stage, you can go into these sites, join these sites, pretty much all of them will be free, and you can see what other golfers or your potential customers are talking about on these forums.
You can start to find out what are their questions, what are their problems they are looking to solve, what are their frustrations, what products are they buying already, what products don't they like, what products did they like but they found gaps with that you can maybe tap into?
So you need to go and spend a little bit of time snooping on your potential customers. You can do this in any market.
That is a little bit of an exercise for you on the start home based business market research front. What else can you do? What I recommend you do is go and find newsletters or e-zines for your market.
Newsletters and e-zines
I am just going to search golf newsletter subscribe. I am going to go to Google.com and just type that in the search box and we will see here by putting those words in: golf, newsletter, subscribe.
I get over a half million results at the time of my doing this. Scroll down and you can see: newsletter subscription, newsletter golf subscription, golf newsletter, golf magazine, golf newsletter, golf newsletter.
I could go down now, if I was interested in promoting in this market, and join a lot of these things to see what people are selling.
What affiliate products are they promoting?
How are they promoting these affiliate products?
What are they actually putting in the e-mails?
What is their website like?
What products have they created themselves, etc.?
You can do the market research. A quick guide to see if there is money in your market is to go into Google and type phrases about your market into the search box and if there are any adverts on the side, where it says sponsored links, if there are adverts on the side it means there is money.
If you can see people are advertising, paying money for a particular phrase like golf newsletter. There must be money even in creating a golf newsletter.
If you go in and put your start home based business market in, if you put in miniature hedgehog knitting and it does not come up with any adverts, or only one or two, the chances are that nobody is making money in that market and it is not a good idea to go after that.
Amazon
Another bit of market research you can do, go over to Amazon.com. I am sure you have heard of Amazon.com, famous for books, but they sell absolutely everything now.
You can go to Amazon.com. Here I am in the sports and outdoors golf section, and what it does is it actually shows you in order of best sellers, what is selling the most.
You can see here I have gone into golf, there is a best selling item related to golf. There is the second best selling item and so on.
You can scroll down and see what the hot items are in your particular market, based on global selling trends. It is a great way for you to see what is a hot selling item in your market at the moment.
As I say, you can do this in pretty much any area: shoes, books, video games, digital stuff, music, sport, home and hobbies stuff, computers and office, electronics, home and gardening, groceries, health and beauty, fashion, tools, cars.
Anything you can think of you get a best seller list pretty much from Amazon.com. It is a great way to fine tune your market research to see what people are buying.
Wordtracker - keyword research
A final tool for your start home based business is Wordtracker.com. At the site there is a free trial. I recommend you go and take that.
What Wordtracker.com does is it tells you what people are typing into search engines. If you put in a phrase like golf into Wordtracker, it will come back and it will probably give you several thousand phrases related to the word golf and it will tell you for each one how many people have typed that into a search engine in the past 60 days.
It shows you trends. It also shows you where the traffic is coming from, what people are typing in. Again, it gives you more market research information on your particular market.
Put the phrases in for your market. Find out what people are looking for. Find out what people are buying.
That is another tool that you can use to do your market research. It is called Wordtracker, and you can get it from Wordtracker.com.
Go where the money is
What you are really trying to do in this start home based business exercise is very, very simply go where the money is. Go where the money is. It is as simple as that. You are trying to find where people are, where the hungry crowd is, where that money has been spent, and then try and get into that market by selling other people's products, affiliate products in that market.
