About this Lens

The primary purpose of this lens is to discuss drivers education for the great state of Connecticut. We'll be adding information for teen drivers, new drivers and seasoned drivers as well as information about Connecticut in general!

Connecticut Drivers Education Requirements

Teens in the state of Connecticut have restrictions and guidelines that they must endure before they will be allowed to get behind the wheel of a vehicle. These restrictions include minimum age requirements for passengers, a minimum quantity of hours that the learner should have under his/her belt before they can apply for a learner's permit, and restrictions that dictate the first 180 days of driving with a learner's permit. While this may seem over-the-top, it is actually a great way to ensure that the inexperienced driver has a grasp on the consequences of not driving cautiously.

The law requires that teens have at least 20 hours of supervised behind-the-wheel preparation. A parent or stepparent, legal guardian, or the spouse of married applicants can do this training, as long as the spouse is at least 20 years old and has at least 4 years of licensed driving experience. At-home training should be done with the teacher researching the state's driving requirements as well. Teens in Connecticut must also complete eight hours of classroom training, 4 hours of which includes information on drunk driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

Teens have to be at least 16 years old before they can get their learner's permit. This is a little older than the average age for a first-time permit holder, which in most states is between 15 years old and 15 years, 9 months old. This age requirement must be met in order to drive lawfully, and both proof of age and proof of learning are required before they can get their learner's permit.

Why online drivers education?

It is a wise investment to spend time, and money, on a reputable online driving course which teaches the basics. Don't overlook the value of online drivers education.
