The Oaxacan Conoisseur Collection

The Connoisseur Collection features a select group of large-scale masterworks by acclaimed Oaxacan artists Maria and Jacobo Angeles Ojeda.

Works by Maria and Jacobo are housed in the Smithsonian Museum, New York's Museum of Modern Art, Chicago's National Museum of Mexican Art, and a host of other museums, galleries, and private collections.

Recently, Maria's painting has begun to leverage themes from pre-Columbian Zapotec, Paquimean and other indigenous arts with increasing sophistication and complexity. Jacobo explains, "In our own workshop, our painting depicts designs and representations of our culture — friezes from the ancient ruin at Mitla, symbols representing waves, mountains and fertility, the totems, and other metaphors for our culture today, and from the past".
