Foster Child Finally Gets Birth Certificate
few weeks ago, a 19-year-old man didn't legally exist, but now he has come back to life. John Charles David Robinson couldn't get his high school diploma or get a job because the state of Missouri couldn't find his birth certificate. From the day he was born, Roger and Diane Wilson have raised Robinson. Technically, he is their foster son; he was never formally adopted, so his birth certificate remained in the custody of the state of Missouri. Three years ago, Robinson needed a copy of his birth certificate to get his driver's license. He was told there was no record of his birth, and he couldn't get a photo ID without the birth certificate. The Wilsons contacted KMBC in July because they were concerned about Robinson's depression. They were worried that the pursuit of the birth certificate was going nowhere. "It makes a person feel nonexistent. Nobody wants them. It's like a kick in the face," Robinson told KMBC's Martin Augustine. Then, Ian Losasso, an attorney with the Shook, Hardy & Bacon law firm, saw KMBC's story and thought he could help the family. Robinson got his birth certificate a few days ago, and he just got his driver's license.
