Cosmic Ancestry

This emerging theory of astrobiology seeks to determine whether life on Earth originated on this planet or whether it began elsewhere in the cosmos. While this line of inquiry has been pursued for decades under the name panspermia, the modern day equivalent of this theory is referred to as cosmic ancestry.

Because scientists have unlocked many of the secrets of the genome, we might one day ascertain whether human genetic code evolved from the elements or was initially programmed by intelligent beings. This is not a vote for Creationism or Intelligent Design, but rather a recognition of the possibility that a more advanced civilization may have been involved somewhere in our ancient, genetic past.
