If you were hoping it would be cheap to get your tattoo removed then I have some very bad news for you; getting your tattoo removed is going to be expensive, very expensive, in fact getting your tattoo removed is going to cost a lot more than it did to get it in the first place.

Once you have finished reading this post you will be able to work out roughly how much it's going to cost to get your tattoo removed, but before we get down to that I think we have time for a tattoo removal public service announcement.

If you want to get rid of a gang tattoo then I'm happy to be able to give you some good news. There are quite a few community organisations hanging around that would be happy to help you with getting your tattoo removed. I can't point you to any in particular I'm afraid, since they tend to operate on a local level, but if you start googling or asking around at your local community centre for tattoo removal programs then you should easily find a few.

For the rest of us I'm afraid there really is no easy way out when it comes to getting our tattoo's removed. Let's read on and keep exploring the magical world of laser tattoo removal.

A lot of people, when they find out the cost of getting their tattoo removed, want to know just why it's so god damned expensive, I mean, it didn't cost that much to get it tattooed in the first place, and that was done in only a few minutes; surely you put a decimal point in the wrong place?

I didn't. I really didn't.

I realise that I haven't actually spouted any actual numbers at you about the cost of laser tattoo removed, but don't worry; that's coming. Before I actually give you any solid numbers to work from I want you to appreciate one simple fact.

I can't give you any hard numbers.

Sorry; I realise that sounds like a bit of a copout, but it's the truth; there is such a huge amount of variation in the cost of laser tattoo removal that I simply can't give you any hard numbers to work from.

You have the age, the complexity, whether it is multicoloured, what colours are in your tattoo even if it only has a single colour, the experience and skill of the artist involved, the size of your tattoo, the specific type of ink used in your tattoo, the prevailing wind when you got your tattoo, whether the red sox had won the world series when you got your tattoo, whether you remembered to wear a condom while getting your tattoo, and many, many other things.

Now there's one thing I want to pick out of that list because it really is rather important to the difficultly of removing your tattoo, and that is the level of skill of the artist who made it. You see if you went to a skilful and experienced tattoo artist then all of the ink in the tattoo will be laid out in a nice flat layer under the skin and the laser will be able to hit it all perfectly the first time, but if the tattoo you want to get removed was made by an in experienced tattoo artist then the ink is probably distributed over a lot of different layers of skin, and the laser will have to be recalibrated at lot in order to remove all of your tattoo, this will make tattoo removal much more expensive for you for reasons I'm (Finally) about to disclose.

Quite a lot no matter how you want to cut it.

The first thing I really need you to understand is that the laser Tattoo removal is something that has to be done in sessions; there is no quick fix; even small simple black and white tattoo's are going to need more that on sessions with the laser.

Sessions are the real cost multiplier when it comes to laser tattoo removal. Each individual session can cost anywhere from $100 to $600 dollar's, it depends on the laser tattoo removal clinic you go to, but what's really going to matter in the end is the number of sessions it's going to take to get your tattoo removed. Remember you can shop around to get the best price on individual sessions but in the end the actual cost of cost of getting your tattoo lasered off is going to depend on the number of sessions you will need, and that was set as soon as you walked out of that tattoo parlour.

To work out how much it's going to cost to get your tattoo removed I want you to take a long hard look at your tattoo, and really think about how long it's likely to take before you can get it removed.

It can take between 2 and 20 sessions to get your tattoo removed. If we just say that at our hypothetical laser removal clinic a session costs $400 that is the difference between paying out $800 dollars to get your tattoo removed and paying out $8000; the price of a reasonable car.

I assume you looked away from your tattoo to keep reading, shame on you; I didn't tell you to look back! Never mind; I need you to look at your tattoo again, and be very honest with yourself; if you try to deceive yourself about the cost of your tattoo removal then you're only lying to yourself.

For simplicities sake let's start with 10 sessions.

Is your tattoo a single colour or many different colours? if you have many colours then you'll have to use a different laser frequency every time and the number of sessions you need to get your tattoo remove will rise. If you only have a single colour in you tattoo you can feel free to lower your estimate.

Are the colours in your tattoo mostly dark? Because of the way laser tattoo removal machines work (I might cover that in another article) dark tattoo inks break down much more easily under laser. Lower your estimate if you mostly have dark inks and raise it if you mostly have light.

Is your tattoo a little rose or a big garden? Size matters when it comes to laser tattoo removal. Raise your estimate if your tattoo is large and lower it if the tattoo is small.

Did your get your tattoo yesterday, or years ago when you where a young man in the navy? Age matters; it's much harder to remove a tattoo if it's had time to settle into the skin.

I could go on like this all night but I think you get the idea. Laser tattoo removal is not going to be cheap no matter what you do, and it is almost always going to be more than you paid to get tattooed in the first place.
