Ratings stated using a 5 star based system. 1 Star indicates the lowest rating with the maximum rating being 5 stars.

Each vehicle make and model has their own safety based designs, but each vehicle must adhere to the minimum Federal Safety guidelines.

NCAP New Car Assessment Program - Rating System Guide

The National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration reported in August 2008 that the number of traffic deaths in 2007 was the lowest in 13 years. With Millions of cars on the road today, Car Safety Rating is paramount to continuing the downward trends of traffic fatalities.

Furthermore, the injuries from traffic accidents declined almost 4% from 2006 statistics. They also reported that the number of people injured in crashes went below 2.5 million for the first time since beginning to collect this data 20 years ago
