Creating A Visual Journal is Fun and Easy!

Visual journaling is a wonderful way to quickly connect to things that make you happy. The process is quick, fun and intuitive. All you need is a few magazines or catalogs, a pair of scissors, a gluestick and a journal of any size that you would like to work in.

Choose a journal that you like the size, paper and feel of when you pick it up. The whole process is about if you like it, clip it out and glue it in. It is that simple and fun! Let's get started...

Creating pages in your visual journal is easy.

1. Collect some magazines, catalogs, and/or copies of favorite photos, a pair of scissors and a gluestick.

2. Look through the pages and tear out the ones that have images on them that you like. If something catches your eye, rip it out. :) It can be words, phrases, colors, textures, food, furniture, animals, cars, flowers.... etc. If you like it, it is yours for the taking.

3. Now go through all the pages you tore out and cut out the words or objects that you liked on the pages. You can be creative with the shapes you cut or not. Whatever you like!

4. Now, without too much thought or planning, start taking your cut outs and arrange them on a page. When you like it pull out your gluestick and glue them down.

5. Have fun with the process. Remember, you can never do it wrong and this is all for you about things you like.

Here are some photos of pages I have created in my own journal...

The theme that emerged here was crafts, colors and creating. All things that I love!

I love this page spread in particular.

A theme of my pug entering his senior years emerged.

My vision for ease, peacefulness and grace for him brings me so much joy. I am excited to share this next chapter of his life. I love that I can open this page anytime to see what I wish for him.

It is that simple. I often sit down for 10 or 20 minutes at a time to work in my journal whenever my new magazines arrive in the mail.

It is a time that i set aside for myself to find and save things that make me smile and happy.

I find that whenever I finish a page, I close the whole book and thumb through it from beginning to end several times. It is fun to see what pages I created previously as they are all things that I like and have meaning for me.

Visual journaling is my favorite way to create a journal. Thank you for taking the time to read my lens.

:) Melissa

I have started an art journal. I enjoy it, but I am always hesitant of doing the next page (I feel I may ruin it). This visual journal sounds a bit freer, because how can you ruin a collage of things you like? I may have to try it sometime.

I think I might have to write my own lens on art journalling!

Thanks for the inspiration!
