HERE'S WHAT I THINK - I think anti-bacterial soaps are hazardous to our health and the environment. Please feel free to disagree or agree!

Do You Think Anti-Bacterial Soaps are Creating Super Germs?

The use of these so called antibacterial cleaning products claims to kill 99% of bacteria. However what becomes of the remaining 1%. This 1% remaining becomes the super germ. The overuse of antibacterial cleaning products breeds stronger and stronger organisms and thus less resistance to cleaning agents.

Yes

Our Immune Systems Need Germs to Work Properly

The use of anti-bacterial cleaning agents are ruining our immune systems and that of our childrens. We need germs to continue to streghten our immune systems.

Yes, you're right!

good info

Lillian says:

I try to always use products that do not contain triclosan. Will be even more diligent now, knowing how it is toxic to the environment.

JoanneOtt says:

I agree with you.

Tammyrf says:

I have always told my husband, "If you constantly kill every germ your body comes in contact with, how will it know how to handle it when you are sick"? I believe that a body's immune system actually gets weakened by all the antibiotics, anitibaterial soap, etc and when a person gets sick their body cannot handle it because it is not used to it.

Brian5 says:

Probably so. I think the best thing to do is just make sure you keep your home CLEAN using NATURAL, plant-based cleaning products.

TwoBrightHeads says:

Yes, certain germs and bacterial are needed to help our body build resistance. Kill them all, we will be in trouble

big bright head

ArtSiren says:

No question about it! 99.9% ain't good enough. Kill them all or just wash with soap. As a kid, I used to play in mud all the time, and I'm sure I'm healthier for it, having exposed myself to weak bacteria and allowed my immune system to 'know' them! The world today is fairly sterile in comparison, which puts people at risk.

titanium_knights says:

Definitely are - and also I think anti-bacterial soaps dry out your skin. We don't use them here.

iLLiaC says:

not necessarily, but i think our over-reliance on antibacterial soap gives us a false sense of security so that we're more susceptible to getting germs, more willing to encounter them...

kab says:

Yep. I think so.

GreenRevolution says:

Yes, many of them contain a chemical called 'triclosan', which kills off the weakest bacteria, allowing the strongest to multiply and form 'super-bugs'. Just stick with regular soap!

carrieokier says:

Yes, they certainly do contribute. Along with the misuse and abuse of antibiotics.

fefe says:

Unfortunately.

bdkz says:

Heck Yeah!

CarolSue says:

I find that anti-bacterial soaps always make my hands break out in rashes. That cant be good!

Victoria_Neely says:

Yeah, I'm a bit annoyed that it's almost impossible to buy soap that *isn't* anti-bacterial.

lucillec says:

Definetly, These Germs, bacteria, and viruses become stronger and stronger. They are some of the contributers that are causing so many dangerous diseases such as the flesh eating diseases and devistating infections to continue in and out of the hospitals. The common public is not being educated or alerted to the danger that is around them. It is all about money not the health of the people or the nation. There are safe products out there that can be used. Shaklee Basic G is on the top of the list. By Lucille Crabtree

No way, Monkeybrain!

anay says:

noooooooooo

JaguarJulie says:

OMG, I don't think I want to think that these soaps are creating super germs. I JUST filled all the soap dispensers with this type of soap not 10 minutes ago.

I believe many germophobes go way overboard on using antibacterial products perhaps too often. Alcohol based products are not very efficient and triclosan is overkill for daily use. However for those who work in fields where hand sanitization is mandated by their occupation (medical) or simply working in direct contact with the public (bank tellers, child care, etc) you need to read my review on the Pure Works line of products. Love this lens! Lots of grea info very nicely put.

I added my opinion above, just wanted to say that I am so glad that I am not the only one with this opinion of the anti-bacterial soaps. Most of my family thinks I am crazy because I am not a germophobe.
