This is such a useful book. I am making 2 afghans out of it right now. One is done using 2 strands of yarn and an N hook, and the other is made using triple crochets and an H hook. Both are working up very quickly and look beautiful. This book has a nice range of patterns in a variety of styles: ripples, grannies, and mile-a-minutes. Some are very simple and some are more complicated. There are also some baby blankets to make.

Come back often to read the rest of the story
I wonder what those tiny grains are on that leaf? If we look closely we can see they are no larger than mustard or turnip seeds. When I first noticed them they were pale yellow and looked like they were coated with varnish. Now, a few days later, they're gray. I wonder what they can be?What do you think these little eggs promise? They promise silk-silk for dresses, curtains and all sorts of pretty things. They promise to supply the whole world with silk.

TRADITIONAL AFGHAN STITCH

This is the result of the Tunisian stitch. It makes wonderful afghans, shawls, and pillows. Here's how to do the Tranditional Afghan Stitch:
TRADITIONAL AFGHAN STITCH:
1. Build a sequence that has equal quantity of stitches.
2. Base Stitch: Place a hook within a second chain, add wool next to the hook and pull one ring through the chain, wool besides hook and pull against one loop, Keep doing till finish. In the end quantity of loops should match quantity of chains we began with.
3. Second row: Twisting the wool should be prohibited round the hook and pull a ring from the 1st loop on hook, Keeping doing this till there remains a single loop remains. The motion of arm would not be left to right side of chain.
4. Third row: Take the first chain, place a hook from right side to left side from 1st standing thread of earlier row, put wool besides hook and next pull from one loop, replicate from 1st into each standing thread that is there besides the row to your left. In the end quantity of loops should match quantity of chains we began with.
5. Forth row: In sequence with the second, third and forth rows process is copied as per requirement. For a more elegant emergence you are free to make use of a dual crochet in the final row.
At some point in the making to might feel that it is getting twisted but that shouldn't worry you at all as once you are finished with the project you can press it to shape. I'd like to share something that shall help you in this project, the force of your hands should be constant or else the stitches shall appear vague in shape and size.

What makes it a great bargain of a book are the additional sections techniques of the crafts listed in the title. For the knitters and crocheters it has lots of crochet stitches. There are photos and directions for many different types of cast-ons and bind-offs, lots of technical info with actual photos of hands-in-action, very useful for all levels. I use this book often; it's one to be referred to again and again for inspiration, stitch patterns and mini-lessons in techniques for knitting, crochet and tunisian crochet. For the amount of info it contains, it's much more portable than other similar books and can easily be taken along.

It covers the basics--the history of crochet, how to crochet, stitches, yarns, threads, and needles. It also covers different techniques--filet crochet, Tunisian crochet, changing colors, wire crochet, bead crochet...etc.

Erika D. of Louisville, KY says:
This is an excellent crochet book! Personally, it is my favorite. The patterns work up quickly and easily, therefore making it a great source for either the beginner, or for those who are a bit more advanced with little time. The patterns are beautiful, and extremely warm and cozy thanks to the double thickness of each. If you don't have this book, you need to add it to your collection!

- Hi my name is David and I don't crochet BUT I have received a few things in my life that have been crochet and I have treasured them all. To me they have special meaning because someone went to all the time and trouble to make that by hand. So if anyone out there does this wonderful art think about what it means to someone you give it to. it can be passed on . I have a few afghans that mean a great deal to me.
Sometimes I have thought maybe it might not be a bad thing for me to start learning.
