Learn What Tools You Need to Cross Stitch!
I want to know What tools i need to cross stitch
Cross stitch is so popular for two reasons: its simplicity and its
cost. A beginner can start cross stitch and within a few hours have
completed a pattern that is beautiful and ready for display. Plus,
the cost of starting to cross stitch is minimal, especially in
comparison to some other crafts. In fact for the very beginner,
these are the only tools you need:
- Embroidery hoop or frame - This is an essential tool for any
cross stitcher as it holds the fabric taut and keeps your stitches
even.- Masking tape - Masking tape is a quick and easy way to secure theedges of your fabric to keep it from fraying.
- Pin cushion - Always keep a pin cushion handy for extra needles
and pins. You can also get magnetic needle safes and other small
magnetic holders for sharp tools.
- Project card or thread sorter - To keep all your threads
organized, try using a cardboard or plastic project card with slots
for each color thread.
- Scissors for thread - Small embroidery scissors are perfect for
thread cutting.
- Thimble - A thimble is a bit awkward to work with at first, but
it will save you some painful moments.
For the more advanced stitcher who wants to work beyond the
pre-made kits available, here are some additional tools:
Easy grid or graph paper - When you get ready to create your own
designs, you will need graph paper to draw your patterns.
- Fabrics - More advanced stitchers like to choose their own fabric for projects.
- Needles - Have a few quality needles on hand in case the kit
needle breaks or is not of good quality.
- Pinking shears - When you cut your own fabric swatches at home,
use pinking shears to create a zigzag edge that helps to prevent
fraying.
- Tape measure or ruler - Keep a measuring tape or small ruler to
measure the center of fabric and display materials.
- Thread - Having a selection of cotton floss will allow you to
finish fabric edges and substitute colors in kits, as well as
create your own designs.
