What is Lightwave Art
Lightwave Art is the combination of: 1. Long-exposure photography with certain rhythmic movement of camera or lights 2. Use of filters and/or digital painting 3. Creative placement of lens (occasionally inside objects)
In the beginning...
I came upon the idea by complete accident. My first digital camera was a hand-me-down from a friend. After receiving the camera, a friend & I decided to drive around Hollywood & L.A. to try out the new "toy". I started snapping some photos. I had no idea how to operate this newfound gizmo - I was a film guy. The conditions were optimal: Nighttime, bumpy car, LA... The first images were streaked and blurry, yet vivid with color. For some reason it conjured memories of Pollock's paintings. Shazzam- it came to me: What if I used the camera like a paintbrush with light serving as the paint?! The first usable image that night was taken of some streetlights in Hollywood after experimenting to get the right rhythm. "L.A. Pulse" (accompanied photo) is the result.
Later in the discovery process I started experimenting with digital painting & filtering. Currently, most Lightwave photo-paintings take several months to complete and can be printed as an original in large format - 4'x5'. Hope you Enjoy!
All the paintings are available in 4'x5' framed, original (all rights, guaranteed 1 of 1). The first Lightwave to be purchased was "Hands of Time" for $800 by Lloyd Brown of Eugene, OR.

- Hey Dad. I remember you showing me these photos and how to make them. At the time I didn't really have much to say other than "ooh, pretty colors", which I guess could be expected given my age. Now I guess I can at least come up with some interesting ways to use the technique. I remember those fiber optic toys that no point other than to fascinate those who looked at them. You know, those splays of wire where the tips changed color slowly. I think it would be neat to take a long exposure photo of that, since the colors would change as time passed. But now that I think about it... the christmas tree did that, right? Also, a long exposure picture of something whose lights turn on and off could give a neat dotted pattern to it (a strobe light might be too fast, but I have no idea). Also, if there were some lights with a nonuniform speed, the photo would turn out with several irregularities (and we love those).
