Elizabeth Chandler Designs was created somewhat by accident thanks to the frequent requests of friends. Due to the cluster of weddings in the summers of my early twenties, I was faced with a growing number of dresses in a closet that remained the same size. I first started using my former bridesmaid dresses to make purses as gifts for the friends in whose weddings I had participated. Before long, those friends began asking me to make purses for them out of the bridesmaid dresses they had acquired in the same time frame. The requests seemed to increase exponentially as word spread of this unique way of commemorating special occasions.

As a bride, you spend hours toiling over the details of the day, including the color and style of dress that your friends will wear. Wouldn't you want a memento that represented your decisions? Since you're unlikely to ever don your wedding gown again, having accessories made from one of your bridesmaid dresses is the next best thing. Something like a cocktail purse made of the fabric you carefully chose would be not only a person gift, but also a practical one.
