You Can do this by yourself and maybe you might need a helper. But with some practice you will become a pro at it and it won't take you very long to do it. For starters it may take you a half hour or even maybe more but you will become faster over time. And it will become an enjoyable experience for the both of you. Dogs do not like to have their nails trimmed, period . In some cases, the need for trimming will be minimized, but at some point in their lives, most dogs will need the dread pedicure, and the more often you need to do it, the more likely that you will make them bleed eventually. Nobody wants to hurt their pet, but hey, it happens. It bleeds, they cry, you might even cry, but with a little extra kissy-cuddly time, that pain will fade away fairly quick. If the thought just makes you freeze up in mortal terror however, for the love of Dog, do not attempt this task! Take your dog to a groomer or to the vet, but a tense owner will equal a tense pet which will make the whole process that much worse. Here Are A Few Tips
To Help You To Trim Your Dogs Nails
1) Get Calm and gather your equipment and a helper if you have to.
2) Make sure the clippers are working properly and are sharp and you know how they work.
3) Set Up the area before you start to work
4) Bring in the dog into the area and get ready to go to work.
5) If you have a small dog you can possible hold the dog in one hand and do the clipping with the other. If you dog is large then lay him down and hold him with a hug type of hold.
6) Now take your clippers and place it over the nail at the front of the nail. You don't want to cut him so be careful. The quick is the area of the nail that is pink (this is a nerve and vein) and usually starts from the middle of the nail and goes to the back of the nail.
7) Keep clipping until you are satisfied with the way the nails are be careful you don;t want to cut him.
8) If you do cut him then put some pressure on the nail untill it stop bleeding. This should only take a few minutes but if it last longer than say five minutes then call your vet.
