4th of July Snack and Dessert Recipes

Are you looking for some quick and easy 4th of July snack and dessert recipes that are sure to make your party a hit? If so, you're in the right place! We've done the legwork for you, and scoured the internet in search of the best 4th of July snack and dessert recipes we could find.

4TH OF JULY SALSA AND CHIPS (http://jas.familyfun.go.com/recipefinder/display?id=40929)
RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
1 pound ripe plum tomatoes, coarsely chopped
1 jalapeño chili pepper, seeded and minced (optional)
2 garlic cloves, minced
3 tablespoons coarsely chopped cilantro
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
Red, white and blue tortilla chips
1. In a medium bowl, combine the tomatoes, jalapeño (if desired; remember to wash the hot oil off your hands after chopping), and garlic.
2. Stir in the cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, and salt.
3. Transfer the salsa to a serving bowl. Serve with plenty of tortilla chips. Serves about 8.

Author Notes: What better way to celebrate summer than with a delicious and patriotic dessert! This one is so easy that you could make it with your eyes closed. Let the kids in on the fun, they may surprise you with their creativity. You can make a lowfat version if you use angel food cake and fat free whipped topping.
Ingredients: 2 pints of strawberries
1 recipe of your favorite white or yellow cake (mix or from scratch, your choice)
1 1/3 cup of blueberries
1 tub of whipped topping
Instructions: Mix up and bake your favorite cake mix or recipe. Let cool.
Slice 1 cup of strawberries, set aside. Halve remaining strawberries, set aside.
Top cake (in pan) with 1 cup sliced strawberries, 1 cup blueberries and all of the whipped topping. Arrange remaining strawberry halves and blueberries on whipped topping to create a flag design. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

PATRIOTIC COOKIE PIZZA (http://arkansasmatters.com/content/features_4thOfJuly_Recipes_Fulltext?cid=76701)

1 roll sugar cookie dough
1 package cream cheese softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 teaspoons lemon peel
2 cups fresh raspberries
1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries
1/4 cup apple jelly melted

Heat oven to 350. Spray 12 inch pizza pan with cooking spray. With floured fingers, press cookie dough evenly over the bottom to form crust. Bake 15-20 minutes to form crust.

In medium bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and lemon peel. Spread
on crust. Arrange raspberries in large star shape in center. Arrange blueberries around outside of raspberries. Brush with melted jelly. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes
and serve when desired.
