EARLY WARNING
MAMA TOLD ME THERE'D BE DAYS LIKE THIS
DANGER IN PARADISE
THIS IS REAL DRAMA....
shortly after that, maybe a couple weeks later(its been a while work with me lol) we had a field trip to the capital, Manila to go to the zoo. I had no idea of the tension between local Filipino's and us Americans who live on the base but i was about to find out.
So we pull up at a huge shopping center and our chaperons got off the bus to go do whatever they do. right then a little man with no shirt on ran on the bus screamed something i couldn't understand. he threw the driver off the bus and began to pull off. Only thing that stopped him was the gears for the bus. i had no idea we were being followed by the military police (we were about 2 hours off base). An M.P ran on the bus and the stranger jumped out of the side window, now we are all glued to the windows watching in amazement when he pulled out a machete and ran at the M.P. its was at least 6 M.P.'s and they opened fire and dropped him right under my window.
The man was not alone and his partners in crime opened fire at the M.P's. there were holes in the bus and people screaming and crying everywhere. That was the first time I saw a person die from a gunshot. I never looked at things the same after that. Life was smooth and we took a couple trips to Korea, Japan Taiwan etc. then one day playing outside i have no idea how lol but I had a piece of bamboo go through the right side of of neck. I almost died, again. i healed up with a nice big scar on my neck which is much smaller now.
good documentary
Mt. Pinatubo Evacuation of Clark Air Base Philippines
Enjoy this two- part visual trace along the route of thousands of evacuees from Clark Air Base and Subic Bay, Philippines, as they escape the destructive force of the pending eruption of the Mt. Pinatubo volcano June 1991. Part 1 of this miraculous adventure covers the historic trek first from Clark Air Base to Subic Bay Naval Base; A week later evacuees board the massive aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln, for a three day voyage, arriving off shore and ferried to Mac tan Air Base, Cebu by helicopter. Stops include: Guam, Hickam Air Base, Hawaii and on to Travis Air Force Base, California. Part 2 offers the viewer a rare, but memorable glimpse back at US military facilities as they were before this colossal event. Videographer and former Clarkite, Virgil Hopper produced this Philippines Experience video series. He is a former member of the American Forces Radio and Television Service that served both Clark and Subic-area audiences with radio and television programming on FEN, the (Far East Network). A large library of video features were shot during Mr. Hopper's stay in the Philippines, from military functions to private events. Most of those features will be available online soon...

this was what we all saw
Mt. Pinatubo Evacuation of Clark Air Base (Part 2)
This part of the presentation reveals some of the major damage to Clark Air Base and nearby Angeles City. The original full-length version of the feature is almost two-hours long. That feature is currently being revised. It includes considerably more of the damage caused on Clark Air Base. One can easily view and appreciate the devastation that occurred and the desparation of those who evacuated, as well as many who remained in Angeles City during this event. Also, this portion of our video adventure offers the viewer a rare, but memorable look back at US military facilities as they existed before this colossal event. More footage is on the way soon..

MT. PINATUBO
I'm having the time of my life not grasping the concept of what is happening, i was just too young to really understand. a few days later the sirens go off and Clark Air Force Base began its evacuation to a naval base further south on the island. A normal 4 hour drive took a bout 16 hours, a long grueling 16 hours. people were falling out because it was so hot and the thousands of cars all headed the same direction didn't help. We arrive right outside of Subic naval base and were placed in camps. There was no shade, very little water and the military was struggling to keep people calm. we actually lost one of our dogs on that trip, it was just too hot. The next day we found a family kind enough to take us in along with another family and a few hours later that's when it happened.
There was a massive earthquake and we heard a low boom. Now mind you we are over 20 miles away from ground zero. We lost power and the sky started getting black In about 2 hours it was literally pitch black outside but its was about 2:30 pm, then it started raining severely, we were have a class 3 typhoon, equivalent to a category 2- 3 hurricane. so, we now have earthquakes probably every 10 15 minutes some major some not, a volcano erupting, and a hurricane basically. The darkness lasted a few days and when we finally got power back and could see what the damage was...I still to this day haven't seen anything like that except for the tsunami a few years ago and Katrina. What we didn't know was that there were massive amounts of ash falling mixing with the rain which made this clay type substance. shelters and houses had caved in trapping a killing people all around us and we we never heard or saw a thing. cars, everything was grey...it looked like a blizzard left 10 inches of snow but its wet ash and rock. It looked like a movie scene or something out of the mist...all grey nothing moving. we stayed there a couple more days and then we were called back to the big field where we started at.
EVAC. ASAP

HEARTBREAK
SO LONG DAD, HELLO U.S.A.
We said goodbye to my father and we were loaded onto an empty oil tanker(US Polar Bear) with old mattresses lined up in rows in the cargo holds, no sheets no privacy but we were finally able to take showers and eat real food after about 10 days. My dad was given orders to stay and help with the recovery efforts and was loaded on the USS Enterprise(air craft carrier).
So here I am, 1 of thousands of people with massive sunburns, dehydration etc in the bottom of an oil tanker! My mom and sister both got sea sick so I wandered around the ship for a few days, the crew was really nice and treated me like a little brother. I remember standing on the deck and seeing the open ocean, flying fish and dolphins and whales, it was a truly spectacular sight.
Now for the fun part, its time to get off the tanker and get onto the land in Guam. We didn't have a dock or anything like that, we had helicopters...so we were loaded up in groups and flown to Guam and finally we had actual houses to stay in ,hot water and stoves! Most people don't even think about not having stuff like that.
We stayed there for about 4 days and were notified that shortly we were going to flown to Hawaii and then to LA. This was probably the worst flight I've ever had. We were loaded onto C-130 cargo planes, the military planes that hold tanks and stuff like that. now the bad part was that the plane isn't air conditioned 1, all the pets were placed in the front of the plane and we were seated behind them so it smells like an unkept kennel for the hundreds of dogs and cats in front of us and the heat didn't help. Now we are in Hawaii but I didn't get to see anything ,we never left the airport and were put right back on a plane and off to LAX in Los Angeles. I remember LA because it was freezing! I been in a rain forest for years and now I'm in LA and it's 50 degrees!
The Worst Of It
Raw and Uncut
R.I.P. to my friends and others that were not so fortunate to escape with their lives. I tip my hat to all of the survivors that triumphed in such a dire time, Americans and more to the local people.

HOMECOMING AND FUTURE GROWTH
STATESIDE IN MIDDLE SHOOL
We were flown to Houston Texas because that's where my mom was from and we spent about 2 weeks there at my grandma's. hen one day a car pulls up and my dad steps out! Of course it was an emotional time I thought he was dead honestly and I brought my self to accept the loss. Fortunately i didn't have to deal with it for the rest of my life because he was alive and well and that, was how I came to America.
P.S. BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR PART 2-LIFE AS AN AMERICAN

- I stumbled across this while preparing for a presentation on experiencing the personal end of a geological event. I was in 2nd grade attending school in Subic Bay during the eruption. I experienced some of the very same things you described. Thank you for sharing.

- Hey Ryan,
This is a very touching story my friend. It is a crying shame that a devastation like this had to happen and take so many lives, as well as displace so many. It will not be the last time but hopefully everyone will be more prepared for future events. I was happy to hear that your dad made it home safely. You have been through a lot and from the short time I've known you, you are handling it very well. I also think making this lens for you and your family was the right thing to do and it will stand for all eternity. Take care my new found friend!

An issue that matters to me
pit bull bad reputation
I am an avid bully owner, yea the dogs have a bad rap but it's not the dog Pit bulls used to be mans best friend, the little rascals had a pit bull, spuds McKenzie-pit bull, homeward bound-pit bull ,so obviously the dogs aren't born killers! The problem came about when people realised that the dogs, IF trained, will fight to death to please their owners so they started betting on them which blew up into the underground dog fighting ring. A few years ago, it was dobermans, then rots now pits...check the stats, pits don't have the leading bite record in dogs more people are bitten by labs and chiuauas than pits...A pit bull isn't a beginner dog, it's not a golden retriever.. you have to train them or you WILL have a problem. They have a sense of pride like "I'm the top dog around" and just like a big strong cocky kid, if you don't channel that energy in the right direction you will have a criminal. Nobody looks at the the little schnauzer as vicious why, because its little..and it doesn't look menacing. My pit has been in a couple fights but my dog was defending itself not just out to kill.It happened at a dog park when she was young this lady had a lab that was very dominant and SHE didn't acknowledge that in her dog to her him barking and jumping at other dogs was cute. to a dog that can be a sign of aggression. Now my dog is a female and the lab was male and he spent all day chasing her trying to mount her. i asked her to control her pet and she shrugged it off like he's just playing, next thing he jumped on her and she turned on him and tore him a new shoulder and my dog is to blame. NO CONTROL YOUR ANIMAL. MAINTAIN DISCIPLINE AND YOU CANE PREVENT DRAMA BEFORE IT HAPPENS AND THAT GOES FOR EVERY, I MEAN EVERY BREED!!
Are Pit bulls really that bad?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byBully Breeds are Vicious
Bully's are the best doge ever
charlino says:
There are bully dogs and bully people. Bully's can be the best dogs and the best people if the love and training are with them from the beginning.

I agree iveran acrosssomemena one's butI've also ran across somekiller labs too and most pits I have encountered wer not mean. It is deffinately not a "beginner/easy" dog to get if you have never had a dog but i think they get an extra bad rap

I've lived a sheltered life here in the plains of America, but have never known a vicious pit bull. Any pits I've known are loving and loyal. Maybe not the best dogs ever for my preference, but a fine pet.

I TOTALLY AGREE...I GO TO OUR LOCAL DOG PARK WITHMY PIT AND PEOPLE INSTANTLY GET SPOOKED.. THEN THEIR UNTAMED UM MANAGED LABRADOR COME RUNNING OVER, TAIL STRAIGHT UP HAIR RAISED TRYING TO MOUNT MY DOG AND THEY THINK ITS CUTE.. OR PLAYFULL... SO WHEN MY DOG SNAPS AFTER LIKE 5-10 TIMES AND ME HAVING TO REMOVE THE PROBLEM DOG, ITS ALL OF A SUDDEN.. OHH YOU SHOULDNT HAVE BROUGH THAT DANGEROUS ANIMAL OUT HERE..LOL IGNORANCE TRULEY IS BLISS I GUESS

Okay not sure about the best dog ever, but any dog that has not been crossbred until its skull cavity is painfully too small (some have been), generally is okay. Some may take different types of training - a collie will become bored, depressed and withdrawn without a lot of stuff to do and a reasonably large family.
My basic opinion on this matter is that a misbehaving dog speaks volumes about the owner and their behaviour. You see an overweight dog, generally they have a lazy overweight owner. You see an aggressive dog, they have an aggressive or disinterested owner. Don't buy a dog if you wont be responsible for it - that includes its mental as well as physical health. The same goes three times over for having a child!
