The Sun, Moon, And The Stars
This one is going to be about how we turned our boring, neutral bathroom into a themed one. It went from white and boring to a Sun, Moon, and Stars Themed room in about a week.
If you've read my other home improvement pages, you know that my husband doesn't like to pay people to do things for him. He prefers to do them himself. He's sure he can do it better than anyone else.
This project was the most fun for me because this is the one I had the most participation in. On this lens, I'm going to show you what we did.
Why We Did It
1. Our bathroom was boring.
2. We wanted to insert more of our personalities into our house.
3. It seemed like a good idea. A way for us to enjoy our house more.
Let's Start With The Fixtures
We completely removed all the fixtures that were in the bathroom when we moved in. When I say all, I mean all. We bought a new toilet, a new vanity, and a new tub.My husband had a couple of friends come over and help him take out the old tub. I don't really remember what we did with it after we removed it, or any of the other items we took out. I'm sure we disposed of them properly though. I would insist on that.
Again, we went to Menard's to buy the new fixtures. A combination shower stall/tub was what we got. We chose frosted glass shower doors. The funniest part about all this? We had to destroy a whole wall and door frame to get the new tub in the bathroom. My husband put all the plumbing in, then put new sheet rock and dry wall on the wall we had to destroy. The hallway, to this day, is still a "work in progress."
Now The Paint And Border
The next step was the paint and border. What we started with was 4 plain white walls, generic curtains on the window, and a plain white floor. We had some yellow and blue paint left over from our son's bedroom, and the colors worked with the theme we were going for, so we used it. We painted the ceiling blue and the walls yellow. For the border, we went to Menards again. We chose a sun, moon, and stars border and off we went. After the paint had dried, I applied the border. No help from my husband, I was so proud of myself! Getting it to line up all the way around the room was very interesting.
We only painted the top half of the walls. My husband put some really neat white paneling along the bottom of the walls. He put in his own moulding, and some wall tiles at the top of the shower stall. How he managed to make it look so good while working around the fixtures, I'll never know.

The Floors And Finishing Touches
We took the easy way out on the floors. We went with linoleum tiles in a light blue color. We just simply laid it over the existing floor.Since we destroyed the doorway putting in the new tub, we had to buy a new door (Menards again). My husband built a new doorway, and we painted it white.
I had some Sun, Moon, and Stars themed items that I collected long before I ever was married or had a house. We placed those in there. We found a Southwestern flavored mirror, and a sun, moon, and stars themed candle holder, and put those in there too. We bought a toilet seat and a shower curtain with the same theme. We bought the shower curtain, because we wanted to turn it into window curtains. It was a fabric shower curtain so that worked out well. I'm not much of a seamstress, so I just gave my mother-in-law the measurements of the window, and the basic measurements we wanted for the curtains, and she sewed them for me. My mother made me a toilet paper holder out of plastic canvas, and we were done.
Again, we had the satisfaction of seeing our ideas materialize in a really neat way.

- I'm redoing a bathroom right now. I would have had to wreck the wall, too, to get a new tub in - so we hauled the old one out and instead we're tiling the floor and walls (over grayboard) to make a shower. Nice lens!
