Step 1:
Troubleshoot.
Typically a machine is going to come to you with some specific hangup. You have to play detective as you isolate and identify the suspected problem component. I like to google the problem that I experience with computers in order to see who else has had the same problem and what they have to say about it. The question that we have to answer is, is the problem software related, hardware related, or both.

Step 2:
Identify exactly what the issue is. Make a plan as to how you are going to solve the problem.
Step 3:
Execute the action necessary in order to resolve the problem. If you have to reinstall software, change a component, then your problem is solved.
