Can't afford a professional dog trainer?

My dogs are an important part of my family, and I want to have the best possible relationship with them. I believe in rescuing adult dogs as opposed to puppies, so they have a chance for a happy life too. I currently have 3 dogs - all unique and adorable - and all had some unwanted behavior when I first got them. I really enjoy learning, so I went on a search for the best DIY guides to train my dogs. What I found is that there is more than one way to skin a cat, er, I mean dog! I'll show you a few of the best methods I found...

3 Things To Know About Dog Training

1. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks...and dogs love to learn!

2. Using positive reinforcement during training makes all the difference.

3. Dogs love to have a purpose and are easy to train...but it all comes down to the dog owner to make this happen.

Which DIY Guide Is Best to Train Your Dog?

Well, this all depends on your own learning style....

In order to be a good teacher, you first need to learn the information well. Since we all learn things differently, you need to find the way that best fits you. Some of the ways we learn are:

Visually : Reading text &/or watching a demonstration

Acoustically : Listening to an instructor

Kinetically : Performing the action while learning

Combo : Mix & match of the above methods

My personal style is a combination of watching a demonstration and then performing the action myself. So what's your style?

The Best Guide For Each Learning Style

Most DIY Dog Training Guides out there come in the e-book format only. Having a reference guide is a must. But if you're like me, and you need to see what the guide is explaining, text alone won't cut it. I've found that a number of guides offer video instruction as well, and this is oh so helpful. Some guides offer audio along with their text manuals, so you can listen to it on MP3 anywhere...like at the park practicing with Mr. Jingles.

I'd recommend "Instant Dog Training Videos" for people who learn by watching demonstrations.

For people who learn better acoustically, my favorite guide is "Secrets to Dog Training".

Another course to check out that includes audio is the "Dog Training Secrets" guide.

And if your interested in Clicker Training your dog, "Canis Clickertraining" is a great way to go. This course also includes video training along with the e-book.

If you learn kinetically, then you have the option of any DIY guide. Since you will be practicing what your learn with your dog, thus reinforcing the knowledge!
