The Office: Seasons One and Two

Season one starts out pretty rough/unfunny with its pilot episode, but the remaining 5 episodes (of 6 total) begin to hint at the later quality of the show. Season 2 is probably the best season to date, and I would recommend picking up this season 1 and 2 collection prior to the below Season 3. But who am I kidding... Pick them all up.

Season 3 of my favorite current comedy series!!! This is the greatest comedy TV series since Seinfeld. If you work in an office environment, you will find it extra funny.

Arrested Development - Season One

Another GREAT series that ended waaaaay too soon. See Michael Cera (from Superbad) perfectly play Jason Bateman's son George Michael. The premise of the series is that Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) is left with the responsibility of running the family business (and his dysfunctional family) while his father is away in jail. Superb acting all around, and the show is packed with hidden humor that rewards rewatching. GREAT STUFF!!!

Twin Peaks - The Definitive Gold Box Edition (The Complete Series)

Finally... the classic TV series is available in one nice collected edition. One of the greatest series of all time (at least during it's first season) should make a great addition to anyone's TV on DVD collection. Plus, the pilot episode for season one IS included in this set. The previous Season one release did not contain the pilot as a different studio owned its rights. The whole issue surrounding the rights of the pilot is one of the contributing factors in the delay of this set being released. At any rate, the set is finally coming out, and the Amazon price looks like a good deal for what is sure to be one of the most highly anticipated series collections of the year (if not decade).

Freaks and Geeks - The Complete Series

Probably my favorite series of the past ten years. Sadly, it was cancelled after only its first season. If you are a fan of Seth Rogen and/or Judd Apatow, check out this series for an early collaboration. It really nails the high school experience... sometimes painfully so.

Friday Night Lights - The First Season

Great example of a series "discovered" on DVD. The low list price of the DVD for this critically acclaimed, but little watched show should hopefully add more viewers to this quality series. I am among the many who did not catch the series as it first aired, but am glad I picked up this DVD... quality stuff here (although the jerky camera work can get kind of annoying at times).

House, M.D. - Season Three

Great Acting from Hugh Laurie. House, M.D. is a character you love to hate. While the episodes can become pretty formulaic, it's the acting from Hugh Laurie that is the draw here. This is the most recently released set available on DVD.

Probably the Greatest Show currently on TV. Four seasons have already aired with the fifth (final) season scheduled to air in the winter on HBO. The show is basically "one case" per season. With interesting characters, and realistic dialogue, the Wire is a can't miss.

Curb Your Enthusiasm - The Complete First Season

Great show by Larry David (co-creator/writer of Seinfeld). This series will definitely remind you of Seinfeld (although much raunchier). In fact, after watching the 5 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm, you may begin to question whether or not Seinfeld would have been half as funny if not for Larry David's contributions. Very funny stuff... Highly recommended.
