No Piggy For Me Thanks!

People ask me all the time, Why don't you eat Pork? ...Is it Religious reasons? ...Are you Vegetarian?

I use to eat Pork...till I started hearing and reading things I did not want to hear! So I did research for myself and I'll NEVER eat pork again!

Reason? - believe Pork to be an unhealthy choice!

Should we be eating Pork?

PIGS are SCAVENGERS and will eat ANY kind of food, INCLUDING dead insects, worms, rotting carcasses, excreta including their own, garbage, and other pigs.

There are many diseases carried from swine to man, particularly parasite infestations.

Influenza (flu) is one of the most famous illnesses which pigs share with humans. This illness is harbored in the lungs of pigs during the summer months and tends to affect pigs and humans in the cooler months. Sausage contains bits of pigs' lungs, so those who eat pork sausage tend to suffer more during epidemics of influenza.

Pork Sausage

When it comes to meats, sausage is probably one of the worst offenders. Sausage, especially pork sausage, is loaded with undesirable, unhealthy fat. Often, it is also heavily processed and seasoned with spices and chemicals. The European Food Safety Authority recently found that a red food colouring in cheap sausages could also cause cancer.

Bacon and Salami

Bacon is so tasty. However, what makes it so tasty is the high amounts of fat and salt it has. Bacon is one of the meats containing the highest fat content. It is also cured with chemicals and preservatives. Salami is just as bad as bacon, as it is cured with the same chemicals. You know it's fatty, because you can obviously see the white fat, marbled throughout the slices of pepperoni.

FACT: Pigs do not have sweat glands. Therefore toxins are not eliminated.

I also heard/read that Pigs are biologically similar to humans, and their meat is said to taste similar to human flesh....disturbingly gross!!! Ewwww!

FIRST TV INTERVIEW WITH GERMAN CANNIBAL 'Human Flesh Tastes Like Pork'

Pigs have been used for dissection in biology labs due to the similarity between their organs and human organs. People with insulin-dependent diabetes usually inject themselves with pig insulin.

Pork & Parasites

Pork is known for its living parasites.

We tend to think of parasites as something people pick up when they travel in some third world country, but parasites are far more common in the "civilized" world than people imagine.

Eating pork is often a direct route to becoming infected with parasites. Pork often carries parasites, some of which can survive even the high temperatures of grilling.

The parasite, known as cysticercosis, lives in pork tissue. Eating raw or inadequately cooked meat, especially pork. The larvae are released, reach maturity, and mate in the intestines, the females producing live larvae. The parasites are then carried from the gastrointestinal tract by the bloodstream to various muscles, where they become encysted.

Parasites are difficult to diagnose and even medical doctors miss them. However, if you have vague health problems that have not been resolved after much effort, one possible cause may be parasites. Some parasites attach themselves to the intestinal lining with suction or teeth. If they migrate out of the intestine into other parts of the body they can cause unexpected serious health problems.

Trichinosis Worm

Trichinosis, also called trichinellosis, or trichiniasis, is a parasitic disease caused by eating raw or undercooked pork and wild game infected with the larvae of a species of roundworm Trichinella spiralis, commonly called the trichina worm. The few cases in the United States are mostly the result of eating undercooked game, bear meat, or home reared pigs. It is most common in the developing world and where pigs are commonly fed raw garbage.

Swine Influenza (Flu)

The human swine flu outbreak continues to grow...

The outbreak of disease in people caused by a new influenza virus of swine origin continues to grow in the United States and internationally. Today, CDC reports additional confirmed human infections, hospitalizations and the nation's first fatality from this outbreak. The more recent illnesses and the reported death suggest that a pattern of more severe illness associated with this virus may be emerging in the U.S. Most people will not have immunity to this new virus and, as it continues to spread, more cases, more hospitalizations and more deaths are expected in the coming days and weeks.

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Swine influenza (also swine flu) refers to influenza caused by any strain of the influenza virus endemic in pigs (swine). Strains endemic in swine are called swine influenza virus (SIV).

Swine flu is common in swine and rare in humans. People who work with swine, especially people with intense exposures, are at risk of catching swine influenza if the swine carry a strain able to infect humans. However, these strains rarely are able to pass from human to human. Rarely, SIV mutates into a form able to pass easily from human to human. The strain responsible for the 2009 swine flu outbreak in humans is believed to have undergone such a mutation.

Fox News - Brain Worm

Worm pulled out of woman's brain. --------------- Please note: This video is NOT to promote any religion, culture, eating habits, or lifestyle. This is only to show an interesting video and if there's any agenda at all, it is to get people to wash their hands and/or cook the pork thoroughly. That's it! Pork was forbidden in some culture because people didn't know the importance of hygiene nor did they have the means to prevent cross contamination. Today, we have soap, hand sanitizers, government regulations, etc. So it's better. Please don't post comments saying any culture or religion is the way to go. As for being a vegetarian is the answer. It's not. Being a vegetarian has its own set of problems, especially being a vegan (trust me, I'm a medical person, so I would know). So please don't use this video to promote this lifestyle either. Eat whatever you want to eat in MODERATION. Exercise or at least keep active. Use logic when it comes to hygiene. Then enjoy your life free of dieting fads.

Gebor says:

However, you must know that in scripture it says pork is not
food. So I submitt to you for this reason I do not eat pork,
or any other animal the scriptures say not to eat. I have not been sick in 8 years. So you figure it out.

harbarenko says:

almawad says:

I think that 's why wild pig's meat must be marinated for days to get rid of the worms ....

Why Muslims don't eat Pork

Both the Bible and the Qur'an prohibit the eating of pork. Muslims are aware of this prohibition and observe it strictly.

Pork prohibited in Qur'an

The Qur'an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.

"Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur'an 5:3]

The above verses of the Holy Qur'an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.

Is Pork Forbidden to Muslims Only?

The Jews and Christians are also forbidden from eating pork.

Pork prohibited in the Bible

In the Old Testament
Leviticus 11:7-8

7"And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.8You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you."

Deuteronomy 14:7-8

7"However, of those that chew the cud or that have a split hoof completely divided you may not eat the camel, the rabbit or the coney. That is, the hyrax or rock badger Although they chew the cud, they do not have a split hoof; they are ceremonially unclean for you.8The pig is also unclean; although it has a split hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses."

Then, in Isaiah 65:2-4, and 66:17, God issues a stern warning against those who eat pork.

It is debated in The New Testament rather or not pork is still forbidden.

Myself, I don't believe it is a "Sin" to eat pork! Just believe it to be an unhealthy choice.

Joel Osteen teaches Christians about PORK!

This video is self explanatory... NO PORK!!! A main stream big shot Minister tells you that PORK is divinely prohibited. So take heed or eat it at your own destruction!

You are absolutely right ! I remember with horror the days of "pig killing" in my grandma's village ...It is a great festival in South Hungary in winter ... but some people changed it into turkey raising after so many family members died early in heart disease ..

Did you mention Japanese flu ? It attacks the brain and kills so many kids who die in a very painful way ...Some years ago there was an outbreak in India ... and it is also mainly spread by pigs ....

We wish to take issue with your comments related to Pork, both from a modern day perspective and Biblically.

Specific to modern day Pork, from my perspective as a consumer, feeder, Pork farm contractor, processor and marketer of niche commodity Pork and specialty Natural Pork, domestically and internationally:

Contrary to your comments it is illegal to feed garbage. Additionally American Pork Producers go to great hygiene lengths to insure that pork they produce for consumers is lean and healthy. As an added caveat the pork we produce is Certified Humanely Raised, never fed animal by-products, fed only a vegetarian diet, raised without the use of antibiotics, no pesticides, a 100% USA product, no nitrates, nor artificial ingredients and minimally processed.

Our pork is also produced using a Processed Verified Program, wherein any pork item may be traced back from any retail counter to the farm of origin.

As to your parasite comment - any undercooked, or unclean product may contain issues even produce.

Sausage: We only use pure pork, not lungs etc that you mention

Let me convey to you just some of the derived uses of swine:

    · Swine are a source of nearly 40 drugs and pharmaceuticals on the market.
    · Pig skin is used to treat massive burns in humans due to its similarity to human
    skin.
    · Swine research led to the development of the CAT scan, a technology for
    examining internal organs without surgery.
    · Life saving human heart values comes from Pigs.

Now from a Biblical perspective, as a Christian:

We take issue with the statement in quoting the Old Testament verse on eating Pork. Keeping it in context God speaks to Moses and Aaron to instruct the Israelite's on dietary law, before the law was fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Here is a man of God, Noah, a Gentile, the only man that was righteous at the time and was not destroyed in the flood and God tells him he may eat any creature that moves, including swine.

Genesis 9:1-3 - 1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons%u20263 everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

The Apostle Paul faced some of the same struggles in his day. Paul had no problem allowing Jews to continue practicing the laws and customs of their heritage, which were so closely tied to their own experience with God as an ethnic group and distinctive people. But he would not allow things, such as dietary restrictions, to be pushed onto others.

Colossians 2:16 "Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink%u2026"

How Jewish do Gentile converts have to be?

In the Jewish Conference of Acts 15 when they met to discuss this very question - the answer: Not very. The declaration of the Jerusalem elders in Acts 15:24-29 makes clear that they would focus on issues in the Law that dealt with morality and loyalty to God alone, not dietary laws, festivals, circumcision and so forth.

The law has been fulfilled in Jesus Christ, as far as the dietary laws are concerned, which were directed at the Jews and the Gentiles.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under the Law, but under Grace.

As to Joel Osteen - he is a great motivational speaker, but he himself will admit that he is not a Biblically studied person. We were watching his televised sermon on August 20, 2006 when he made comments related to pork and shellfish. You could hear a congregational groan, to which he made a comment "The ushers have already locked the doors."

We sent two letters to Joel Osteen seeking Biblical clarification input on his part. The first letter was dated August 22, 2006 and the second October 10, 2006. Joel Osteen did not reply to either - what kind of teacher is that? Possibly whose motive financial gain?

We still watch Joel Osteen, but are careful to dissect what he says from a Biblical standpoint.

Certainly, it can be tempting to latch onto some of the laws of the Old Testament and try to apply them, since many are so concrete and simple. This is especially true if the law seems to fit some contemporary insights, or one's opinion, such as Osteen, rather than Biblical fact, such as some people's misguided non-factual understanding of Pork. But I feel it's a safe bet that people strong on pork avoidance tend not to try and apply most of the other laws in the Old Testament!

I appreciate your opinoins, and you are welcome to have any you choose. I however, love the taste of pork, of any kind, bacon, ausage you name it. I am affraid that I did not reed your entire blurb here but that is because it quickly became clear to me that your "facts" were based on propiganda rather than research. For instance It has my experience raising pigs, that the are particularly clean animals.
It is true that they are scavengers and will eat anything that they have available, that is true except that you include feces, pigs will actually select an area of the enclosure to use as a bathroom and tend to avoid that area unless ofcourse they have to relieve themselves. An example of theis is the popularity of the viet-namese pot belly pig as pets. These pets have earned a reputation as a very intelligant animal and can be house broken as quickly or quicker that dogs. I will stop here but, quick suggestion, site the source of your "facts" so they can be varified.
