Daniel Radcliffe (a.k.a. Harry Potter) in 'Equus' on Broadway

Ranked #17,419 in Entertainment, #211,849 overall

HERE'S WHAT I THINK:

I saw the production of "Equus" on Broadway. I had heard reviews of his performance from various sources. I heard a lot of what I call "prattle" about him having an obligation to the Harry Potter image. There was so much negativity about him appearing nude in the play. Also, that he was only hired because he is Daniel Radcliffe. Well, I would like to shatter all the negative talk about Daniel Radcliffe. He was so great and inspiring in "Equus" that I (being a huge Harry Potter fan, along with my 9-year-old daughter) forgot that I was watching Daniel Radcliffe, or the person that plays Harry Potter in all the movies. His performance was very passionate and moving. He brought the play to life, along with Richard Griffiths, who was also amazing in the play. I loved this play and all the actors and dancers in it so much that when I hear anything negative, I want to find the person who says it and throw tomatoes at them! Let's talk about the nudity. It was relevant to the story, and seemed natural. I was so caught up in the play that I did not dwell on it. I also explained to my daughter that I was going to see this play and that Daniel Radcliffe appears nude, along with a girl, in the play. I let her know that the nudity was tastefully done and very modest. I also stressed that this is what one calls "art". We are an artistic family. One final thought, I really despise those who say, "I saw Harry Potter's pee-pee", or those that go for only that reason. Have you ever heard of "art" people? Grow up.

If you haven't seen the play and even if you don't agree with my opinion, read the book and find out exactly the role Daniel Radcliffe took on. I think it's a great story. They sold this book of the play at the Theatre. I regret not buying it there, but believe me, I came home and bought it at Amazon.com.

DANIEL RADCLIFFE TALKS ABOUT "EQUUS"

GO AHEAD, TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!

Come on, whaddya think? Did you see the play? OK if you did not, I still want you to sound off!

Remember, I like to throw tomatoes at those who disagree with me. Sorry, I can't control it!

Do you think that Daniel Radcliffe should have taken the role in Equus? Why or why not?

Yes, you're right!

Samantha Underwood says:

I think it's great that he is trying new and things and helping further his career in doing so. He a great actor and all actors should want to push themselves to their limits and come put on top. Which he did and he really portrayed the feeling and the intensity, the emotion that the young man must have felt. It is really moving and I hope that there will be other plays just like this one meaning real emotion. People if you don't like the fine arts or are uncomfortable with them go find your entertainment somewhere else.

jadehorseshoe says:

Yes. He is an ACTOR. He is NOT "Harry Potter."

Hermionebug says:

He can't be Harry Potter forever and he definitely should be stretching his abilities in this kind of role if he wants to pursue acting as an adult. I'm sure he's having the time of his life stepping into new roles-that's what actors dream of doing. Well done, Daniel R.!

Bianca says:

I saw the play too and I was moved!!. WOW the play really got to me. I loved it, not even knowing at first who he was :-)........

Melanie says:

You go "artsy-fartsy"!!!! I love Broadway!!! And, you can't love Broadway without an open mind!!! Would love to see it!!!

BethMcElliott says:

I saw it, and I loved it. The nudity was necessary, and not in the least gratuitous. The story was amazing, the acting was of course superb, and the dancers were incredible. Daniel Radcliffe did not disappoint, rather, he performed beyond expectation.

I would see it again in a heartbeat!

No way, Monkeybrain!

alisha sharma says:

WELL HE IS AN ACTOR AND ACTORS SHOULD ALWAYS TRY SOMETHING NEW NOT A SINGLE THING ALWAYS SO I THINK HE IS BEST AND ROCKING IN HARRY POTTER OR IN EQUUS :-D

BigGirlBlue says:

I have not seen the play, but I have seen the marketing stills which were fabulous (I'd hang them on my wall). The boy has grown up so it's only natural that he would eventually take on mature roles. That being said I think the marketing people behind him took advantage of him being Harry Potter to further their own publicity. He's 17. I shouldn't be thinking how good he looks and he shouldn't be posing for pictures that make others think/feel the same way. I'm kind of disappointed he didn't take the moral high ground for at least a year or two. Young women have been exploited for decades in some cases "for the art" of it but that doesn't necessarily make it right because he's a male.

DANIEL RADCLIFFE HONORED AT TIMES SQUARE HOT SPOT

Daniel Radcliffe was honored Feb 6th at Tony di Napoli's restaurant in New York for his work in the Broadway production of 'Equus'. An original portrait of Daniel, pictured above, was hung on the famous restaurant's Wall of Fame.

Tony's artist in residence, Daniel May, creates original oil paintings of Broadway performers, which are displayed in the restaurant's Entertainment Icons Gallery. Other celebrities on their Wall of Fame include Mario Lopez, Bob Saget, Chazz Palminteri, and Antonio Banderas.

Equus closed February 8th but I heard that Daniel may return to reprise this role in two years. We'll see!

PICTURES THAT PROVE I WAS THERE-SO, HA!

Beth took me to NYC to see the play Equus on Broadway starring Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths. We took fun pics while we were there. Before the day, we goofed around at her house.

I haven't seen the play but it's the media which emphasises the nudity and makes this a focal point in people's thoughts. Daniel Radcliffe is a decent enought actor and it is the play as a whole that should be judged.

I didn't see the play but like the debate anyway. I think Daniel's a great actor... though I'm a little too old :-) to see him as anything but an actor! But if you see the movie December Boys he is so good in it you never think of Harry P. Plus you've got to respect how he wanted that role so he could play a supporting character instead of the lead. I reckon we'll see great stuff from Daniel in years to come.

Movie review: The Woman in Black (M)
Daniel Radcliffe does a good job in his first commercial film since Harry Potter ended. It is slightly confusing seeing him play a mid-20s widowed father taking on a mysterious figure, but once the plot starts rolling you don't think too much of it.
