Darth Maul is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe and a main villain in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. He was portrayed by Ray Park and voiced by Peter Serafinowicz. He was the first (known) apprentice of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Darth Maul was designed by concept artist Iain McCaig.

Darth Maul (real name unknown) is of the Zabrak species, born on the planet Iridonia in the year 54BBY.

He was taken from his family at an early age by Darth Sidious and indoctrinated in the ways of the dark side of the force. Throughout his Sith training, Maul was taught various combat and killing techniques. Since the Zabrak were a self assured race with a single minded determination to accomplish any task he became fanatically devoted to the dark side. By the time he was an adolescent, he was a weapon of pure hatred, and soon to be the personal assassin of Darth Sidious.

During the light saber duel with Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul does a 360 degree horizontal spin with dual lightsaber in hand, and still lands on his feet. I love watching that scene, and wish that Maul was actually a Jedi so we could see more of his awesome abilities (brought to the screen by martial arts specialist Ray Park) in the following movies.
