Darwin Hybrid Tulips
Ranked #6,775 in Home & Garden, #84,418 overall
Darwin tulips are perhaps the best value for money of all Tulips. Not only are they tall and large-flowered (6" 15cm across), they'll reliably flower and multiply year after year. These "perennial" tulips are the result of crossing the old Darwin Tulips with Fosteriana Tulips, which grow wild.
Other assets include tight pyramid-shaped buds which billow into large loose flowers and pure bright colors, as well as striking mixtures of these. Average height is 18" - 24" (46 - 60cm)
They flower late April to May, just before or overlapping with Lily Tulips (Lily-flowered Tulips), Rose Tulips (Double Late), Viridiflora (Green Tulips), some Fringed Tulips and Parrot Tulips.

For the longest display, mix late-flowering tulips with earlier ones such as Greigii Tulips (March and Early April), Fosteriana Tulips, Kaufmanniana Tulips, Single Early Tulips, some BotanicalTulips, Peony Tulips (Early), Triumph Tulips, Darwin Tulips, Single Late Tulips and Dogtooth Violets.
Tips For Growing Darwin Tulips
They'll do best in US zones 3 - 7 and in the UK.
Keep them out of strong winds. Otherwise, their tall stems will droop or snap.
Darwin Tulips are among the best Tulips for naturalizing (spreading). Just make sure you wait at least six weeks after flowering before cutting back dead foliage and deadhead the flowers before they set seed.
Like all tulips they like well-drained soil and hate getting waterlogged.
They prefer full sun, but will stand some shade.
