David Beckham has an incredibly lean and muscular body with some great abs to go with it! No wonder the women love him. This lens goes into detail on how you too can have great abs and get in incredible shape.

It's no doubt that David Beckham is one of Britain's hottest and most recognizeable guys out there according to many women. He not only is a great athlete, he has the look of a model. But why do you think that he makes many women's heart flutter? His body, of course and more specifically his abs! David has the lean, muscular look that most women prefer and most men would love to have. Not too much muscle and very low bodyfat.

So what does it take to get abs like David Beckham?

So how does the normal guy get abs like David Beckham? Is it possible to get in his kind of shape if you're not running up and down a soccer field all the time? Yeah, it's possible and with some hard work and consistency, you can do it and I'm going to show you how.

Now lets look at what it will take for you to get great abs and get in the best shape of your life. First off I am going to assume that if you are trying to get great abs, that's because right now you don't have them. If you don't have great abs, that's because of one of two reasons, or possibly both.

1) You have too much bodyfat covering your abs

2) Your abs are underdeveloped

Most people have trouble with the first one, too much bodyfat. This is common in most people in North America today and I think in society in general.If you just take some time observing people out in public, you will see more overweight or even obese people then you will see lean, muscular physiques like David Beckham. So, if you are overweight, don't worry in reality the majority of people are. I am going to help you get in the minority of people that have six pack abs and the lean, hollywood look without too much bulk.

There is no shortcut and there is no magic trick to it

So if we are looking to lose bodyfat, so we can see the ab muscles hiding under it, there are two main components.

1) Eat Less

2) Exercise More

Sounds simple enough, right? Well, it is simple and I will show you what I mean. The fitness and diet industry tries to make it more difficult than it really is. They do this so they can sell you their latest gimmick pill or diet of the week and profit off of you.

Did you ever wonder why there are so many diets out there? It seems like every day a new one comes out that contradicts the last one that you read about yesterday. If these diets work so great, why do we need so many of them? Couldn't we just do the one diet and that would be enough for us to lose weight and start sporting our new body around town? The truth is that diets don't work, diets only make you feel and probably look worse than you did before you started them.

Forget about diets and forget about the magic pills that don't work

The great thing about giving up on diets and the pills is that you will have more money and get better results. Kind of win-win, right? Just follow what I am telling you and rely on hard work and consistency. They will beat out fad diets and magic pills every time! You need to know that if you want to have great abs, you have to work hard at it. If it was easy and these diet pills really worked, everyone would be walking around with six pack abs. But in the real world, they aren't.

You need to be at a caloric deficit on a consistent basis

If you want to lose weight, your body needs to be at a caloric deficit. You need to use more calories on a consistent basis then you are taking in. There are two ways to do this, eat less or exercise more. You could also do a little of both, which is what I recommend. If you had to choose one or the other, I would eat less. You are going to get better results with your diet then you will with exercise. This explains why you see overweight people at most gyms. Even some of the bigger, muscleheads are carrying too much fat. They exercise consistently each week, but continue to be overweight. The reason is because they are eating too many calories.

I'm not saying that exercise isn't important, because it is, but if you can't cut your calories down it won't matter how you train. You can have the best abs around, but if you are eating too much, they will be hidden forever!

Intermittent fasting is the easiest way I have found to cut your calories

The biggest downfall of diets is that they are hard to follow long term. You may be able to hang in there for a few weeks, but eventually you will cave in and before you know it, you are back to eating normal again.

I want to introduce you to a way of eating that if you can just get past the brainwashing that we all have had about eating 6-8 small meals a day, you will fall in love with. You will consistently see results and you will never worry about counting calories, weighing food, or preparing your meals every day.

I am talking about intermittent fasting, one of the most controversial subjects out there in the diet industry. The main problem that the diet industry has with fasting, is that they can't make it in to a pill and sell it to you. If they could, believe me they would have already been pounding it down our throats, like every other thing that they try and sell us.

Don't be afraid of losing muscle while dieting

One of the biggest myths out there is that if you cut your calories, you will go in to starvation mode or your body will start to burn all of your muscle instead of the fat that we are so desperately trying to lose. Of course if you cut your calories too much for an extended period of time, you can lose muscle. Just look at the people on "Survivor". If you do some kind of resistance training as part of your exercise routine, you will not only keep the muscle, you will also lose more fat.

In a nutshell, if you break down your muscles by doing progressive resistance training while limiting your calories, your body is forced to use the calories that you do have to build your muscles back up. This causes the excess bodyfat to be used for energy, which results in fat loss. Is it really that simple? Well, no but unless you really want to get scientific as to what yur body is doing, this is enough for our purposes. Remember our purpose is to get great abs like David Beckham, not become a scientist or dietician.

The secret to great abs

Here is the secret to great abs in the simplest way that I can break it down.

"You need to cut your calories, causing a caloric deficit, while doing resistance training to keep the muscle and lose the fat." See, I told you that this stuff was simple, didn't I?

1) Cut your calories with intermittent fasting or whatever other way that you desire. Although, I really think that you will love intermittent fasting once you try it.

2) Follow a program of resistance training and interval cardio.

What type of resistance training should you do for great abs?

Remember that before you worry too much about what's the best ab exercises, you need to focus on training your whole body, so you can burn the fat. Once you get your body fat levels down, then you can concentrate more on the specific ab exercises. In fact, I bet that once you lose the fat around your waist, you will discover that you actually have pretty good looking abs already.

If you have never trained consistently, don't worry you don't need to turn in to Arnold or start taking dangerous and illegal steroids. You just need to do a full body circuit type workout that can be done in a gym or even at home. There are many different body weight circuits that you can do that do not require a gym or even any weights.

On my blog is a few videos from this guy, Craig Ballantyne, that created a system called Turbulence training. He is the master of body weight circuits that will make you stronger, leaner, and develop incredible abs. I have personally followed his stuff for years and love all of it. the great thing about Craig's stuff is that he has workouts for beginners, men, women, old, young, advanced. It doesn't matter what your situation is, he has a workout to fit you. If you are new to training, you should gain muscle fast. After a while, you may struggle to gain size because of being stuck in a plateau or experiencing anabolic slowdown. This is common and can be worked through though.

So your calories are lower, your body is fatigued with resistance training, now on to the last step. What is the last step, you ask, well it is interval cardio.

What is interval cardio training?

Interval cardio is a way of doing cardio that has you warming up for around 5 minutes, and then doing intervals of around a minute at a fast sprinting pace and then a minute at a slower walking pace. You do these intervals back and forth for around 15 minutes and then cool down for around 4-5 minutes.You can do this on a treadmill, bike, elliptical, etc. I actually like to do this on a treadmill and have had great success with this after my resistance training.

So there you have it. If you want to have great abs like, David Beckham, just follow what I have outlined above. This will help you to lose fat, keep the muscle, and let your six pack abs show how great they look.
