"I searched for years to get my full size drill into tight spaces. I tried everything from flexible shafts to simply holding the drill at crazy angles. Then I found this drill - what a solution! And one that works interchangeably with my other 18 volt tools. My first use for this unit was to drill holes for a 3" PVC line in 50 year-old pine, floor joists. This drill went through them like butter. After a dozen or so holes, I switched to replacing drawer guides in a cabinet at low speed. It worked like a charm. "You definitely won't use this tool on every job, but when your hole hawg is simply too clumsy, this drill is perfect for that tight spot. In fact, it's a godsend! I took the time to replace the 3/8" chuck with a 1/2" keyless chuck and I couldn't be happier with the results. I have not experienced any problems with this drill whatsoever, even with my custom modification of the chuck. I feel the tool is well built and serves its intended function very well. If you buy this elsewhere (like Home Depot), you should know that they sell the kit with only 1 battery for $199.00 not the 2 batteries that come with the kit sold online. The product # is DW960K-2 for the 2 battery kit and DW960K for the single battery version. Both products include the same drill, kit box and charger. If you're going to spend the money, get the kit online and get the extra battery."

"This drill is a wonder to work with and I use it all the time while on the job. It gets me out of jams every day. The DW996K now comes with 2 batteries for the same price as the old kit. They are the standard 14.4 batteries (not the extended XRs). This is actually a good thing because the smaller batteries allow you to get into tighter spaces which is the whole concept behind this drills design. The cordless advantage also helps for working in cramped areas, such as working on cabinet drawer slides or installing under cabinet lighting. The keyless chuck is not excessively shrouded so it is easy to get at. Its perfect for this drill design. Overall, I feel the DeWalt DW966 is by far the best, most affordable, and most functional cordless 3/8" right angle drill on the market at this time. Makita's 9.6V and 12V cordless designs are outdated. You won't be disappointed if you buy this drill. Make sure to get the 2-pack battery kit when you buy it."

"This drill is fast and provides plenty of torque. The long body/handle combination allows for more leverage, making it much easier (and safer) to control. Both Milwaukee and Makita both copied this drill's design a year after this was on the market and that's always a good sign. I have used the Makita RAD and Milwaukee super hawg....and what can I say? I still prefer the DW124 because the Dewalt's chuck is further forward and its top leading edge of the gear case is beveled, so with the bail handle removed (I always remove it) it will fit into even tighter spaces than the others will. The DW124 is reversible with two speed ranges. It uses a clutch when in low speed to prevent the torque of a jammed bit from snapping your wrist (which is why most of these types of drills are referred to as "wrist breakers"). A drill like this is a necessity for contractors. With today's fast paced construction and high cost of skilled labor, you really can't compete or work efficiently without having at least one on the job (we have three). This is a very solid tool and I will be buying another when the time comes. I recommend it to anyone who works in the trades and needs to drill many large holes quickly."
