"I purchased this router set for doing inlay work and use on a dovetail machine. The bases on all three were designed to be narrow enough to hold brass bushings. It also has a soft start like Bosch.

I use the D handle the most. It does have variable speed which is great. The cord connectors have their own plugs and are easy to connect (the ends twist and latch, so you know when their connected). The plunge base has a vacuum port on one shaft (haven't used it though). The dial on the router base is smooth and elevates/lowers the motor with precision and locks tight."

"I bought this and use it as a hand-held router. The plunge springs are soft, making it easy to control during plunge cuts. The bushing holder is easy to install and it fits perfect. The balance point of this router is to the left of the bit. This makes it less 'tippy'. Its motor is quiet and smooth (the power is deceptive). Out of all the tools in my shop, DeWalt tools feel the best. The same holds true for this router."

"I have this model for 8 years now. I also have a top of the line Fein. I used to prefer the Fein but I'm leaning towards the DeWalt now, mainly for two reasons. The Fein's switch is easily turned off if you're not careful. The DeWalts switch locks into place while I've found that the Fein trigger lock is troublesome to engage. The second reason I prefer the DeWalt is durability. 8 years and not a single repair required (I haven't even had to change the brushes)! During that same time, my Fein needed two repairs. This router comes highly recommended."

"I invested considerable time analyzing various routers before purchasing this DeWalt. I had a real test environment available and was able to scrutinize the performance of the following routers:
* Makita RF1101KIT (w/free edge guide and dust collection)
* Porter-Cable 693VSPK (w/free edge guide, no dust collection)
* Bosch 1617EVSP
* DeWalt DW618PK edge guide

All are well built machines. I had to pass on the Porter Cable because the base required an extra tool to switch-out. Also, the PC seemed to lack in power and did not have a soft-start. The flimsy (but free) edge guide from Bosch sealed the fate of that router. The Bosch also collected dust near the bit which blocks your view.

The Makita and DeWalt were the final two for me to choose from. They both performed well and came with everything I wanted. Despite that Makita provided the edge guide for free (DeWalt's is extra $$), I finally decided on the DeWalt because the dust collection was truly integrated with the unit (the Makita's was a separate, but included, plate you attached). So, the dust collection settled it for me, and I purchased this unit.

Other than the slight heaviness (the Bosch was the lightest of the bunch), I am completely pleased with this purchase. This is a great router. Although the DeWalt was the most expensive of the group, this is definitely one of those cases where you get what you pay for."

"I bought this unit specifically to put rounded edges on some homemade benches. I knew the size of this trimmer and its base options would allow me to reach areas a normal router couldn't. Three features sold me on this unit: its depth adjustment ring, the easy motor removal, and its power. After extended use on my router table, I can honestly say all of those features are top notch.
