If you ask most people why they have not yet moved on from the death of a pet, to live a life of joy that they desire, they will more often than not reply with some built-in justification (negative belief) that is holding them back. Beneath this justification or negative belief is often a fear or worry.

How many times have you attempted to see yourself doing an activity that you would have done with your pet, only to stop before you ever got started because you were afraid of how you might react?

Or you don't think you are ready for that yet?

Or because you believe that it would cause more pain then pleasure to even try?

F.E.A.R. as False Evidence Appearing Real

I am guessing you have heard this before, a definition of F.E.A.R. as False Evidence Appearing Real, which means we have chosen to believe in something that is not really true. You must realize that this is our belief, so it becomes reality (by choice).

Look at it this way; what if worrying is nothing more than a constant fear caused by indecisiveness. What if your fear or doing this activity is caused by you not doing it?

At times we ought to ask some hard-hitting questions to establish the source of these worries or fears. You can overcome that fear by using a simple prescription, as soon as the fear is recognized.

The first step: Details of what your Fears and Worries are

Describe with the most details what you are afraid of or worried about.

I am afraid that I will see another dog and that will make me cry.

I am afraid that I will feel mad at others because their dog is still alive.

Write in down on a piece of paper. Resolution of half of your worries and fears will occur, the instant you can describe them evidently by putting them on paper.

Seeing them on paper diffuses a lot of the energy these had from just being in your head.

Step two: Make Peace with your "What if..." List

In order to move on your will need to find resolution for the other half of your worries and fears. This is where some hard question need to be asked, like what is the worst possible thing that can come about if this fear or worry really happens?

What if I do go for that walk on the trail where I used to go with my dog, what is the worst that can happen?

Make a list of the worst possible outcome that can happen.

What if I start crying and everybody is looking at me.

What if I grab someone else's dog and start running.

What if I fall on the ground and can't move anymore.

What if I faint and nobody is there to help me.

Etc.

Write all of your worries and fears down on paper, keep going until you have exhausted all of the possibilities.

Facts: 90% of what we worry about NEVER happens

Now! Did you ever realize that 90% of what we worry about NEVER happens?

Sound crazy but it is true, so how much time do you spend worrying about stuff that will most likely NEVER happen. Meanwhile you could be spending healing your loss and moving on to some happy memories of your beloved pet. Think of all those wonderful treasures you have buried in you that you could access right now, this is why you must get those fears and worries out in the open and face the truth of how unlikely these will ever occur. This list will aid you to see that.

So since 90% of those things will never occur, you are capable of dealing with the 10% and start now affirming that to yourself it is worth what you will get in return happy memories and joyful moments.

Decide now to resolve these fears and worries by taking positive actions, knowing what these resolutions can bring you is a great first step.
