"You must have this tool in your workshop! I have owned and used this DeWalt planer for several years now. It has been a lifesaver! The planer has a ton of power; nothing will slow this beast down! The front knob is convenient for adjusting the depth (remember: the knob is for balance, not steering!)

I have used this quite successfully to widen door and window rough-ins. I recently had to fix an error made by a framer I hired, and without this planer we would have had to rip out an entire soffit! "After a year of use, this planer continues to be a wonderful machine. However, be warned the blades dull rather quickly. My neighbor owns the DW733 model and he is still on his original set of blades after 2 years of use while I am using my third set after 1 year of use. We both plan the same projects at the same frequency of usage. With replacement blades at $50 a set, this can get expensive. Other than that minor detail, the planer works beautiful."

"I would like to make a comment on the knife-life issue that has been discussed about this and other portable planers. When a line shows up on the wood (indicating the knives are knicked) you do not have to replace them. All you need to do is shift 1 of the 3 knives a little so that the knicks in the blade no longer overlap. Then they'll perform as good as new. You can do this many times before actually having to replace or rotate the knives. In fact, these knives are slotted and allow this position adjustment for this very purpose. Plus, since it has 3 knives means they'll probably last longer than 2, since you can shift them around to prevent overlapping knicks from striping your work. All planers have this same issue, and it's unlikely that the DeWalt's knives are sub-par in this respect. This is a great machine. I highly recommend it."

"The cut is silky smooth and unless you look very closely in bright day light on a darker wood surface, you won't see any blade marks.

The machine functions very well and is a breeze to setup. The controls operate smoothly and precisely. Each feature works as expected without needless adjusting. The dust hood clears chips and dust very efficiently. I'm very pleased with this planer and I would recommend it to anyone."

"This machine is the first planer I have ever owned or used, so I don't have much for comparison. I like it very much so far. Straight out of the box you can attach the hand crank, the dust attachment, and you are ready to go. There are two dust attachments. One for a 4" hose and another to attach to...a diffuser maybe? The directions are well written and extremely easy to follow. To make any adjustments on the machine requires the use of a small tool that is stored right on the top of the body (very convenient!). The controls work great and are easy to operate, and remember I'm a first time owner! I love this machine and I've recommended it to two of my friends so far."
