I was a contractor in the Southern California area for almost 20 years. The one thing I hated more than anything else was crappy tools.

DeWalt power tools are a joy in the hand, and they can take a serious beating. I've dropped them off 20 foot scissor lifts before and all that happened was some rough scratches. My drill worked fine.

For myself, and for my employees, I always bought the best tools money can buy. DeWalt is a top notch brand; you can definitely trust them. Not only that, but they are affordable.

The DeWalt 788 Variable Speed Scroll Saw is truly a craftsman's tool. Are you in the market for one? Great! I have the information you need.

Take a look at the customer reviews, and then take a look at the instant, online quotes offered from reputable suppliers who can ship the saw to you within a few days. DeWalt DW788 Scroll Saw Reviews

"This thing is so well designed and it assembles very quickly (just 2 screws!). I was cutting within 10 minutes of opening the box. The controls are exactly where they should be and the air hose is just strong enough to do the job. To change a blade takes less than 30 seconds. The tension adjustment is superbly designed (turns the correct way and is properly labeled). In addition, the saw is whisper quiet and the table is solid. Beveling is a breeze with this saw. I'm glad I bought this saw rather than wasting my time, money, and frustration purchasing some of the junk I have seen on the market."

"I bought this saw on recommendation from a friend of mine. He said that in all the years of working with saws, the DeWalt was the best saw he's ever used. I figured I would look on line for more reviews and found plenty of positive ones. So, I drove to my local True Value hardware store and carried home the DeWalt for $489.79. I've been using the saw for about a month now and I couldn't be happier. This saw is a moderately heavy saw with a high-quality build. It has virtually ZERO vibration. I even tested it by turning it on and standing a nickel on its side..and guess what? The nickel didn't fall! The blower is extremely strong and will keep your lines clear and visible. The blade tension can be adjusted while the saw is on, which is perfect for fine-tuning on the fly. All in all, a great purchase. I couldn't recommend it more."

I took my time before I actually made this purchase. I read dozens of reviews and even made a point of visiting a wood show to see a demonstration of this saw. I bought this to replace a Delta scroll saw I had purchased years ago. My goal was to purchase a saw that was easy to use and had little vibration. This saw fit the bill, and it is the quietest tool in my shop. Changing blades and adjusting the tensioning couldn't be any easier. I purchased this saw from an online store and received it within a few days. The only assembly required was attaching the table. Ten minutes after opening the box, I was scrolling Christmas ornaments. The quality out of the box was superb. I've already put over a hundred hours on the saw and I must say this saw is addicting. I was surprised to learn this tool was not made in China or Taiwan; it is made in Canada! I have tried hard to find something negative to say about this saw...but I can't. It's a superbly crafted tool, a pleasure to use, and I'm looking forward to many years of use."

When I purchased the DeWalt, I was a beginning scroller. I wanted to find a saw that provided dependability along with ease of use. I read reviews and tested several models. The Dewalt has easily lived up to my expectations in every way. Set up is quick, and the blade changing is simple. Cuts are smooth. The DeWalt is a GREAT deal. Buy this saw - you won't regret it."

What the heck is a scroll saw?

If you need to cut freehand, intricate shapes into relatively thin wood, a scroll saw is the perfect tool for you to purchase. It uses very thin blades that allow you to cut small, radius curves.

To picture a scroll saw, think of a bayonet saw. Now, imagine it upside down and with a much finer blade. That's pretty close to what a scroll saw looks like.

The thin blades often make the scroll saw the only solution for making extremely delicate cuts, such as for inlays. This makes the scroll saw more of a craft-oriented tool instead of woodworker's tool. A typical scroll saw can be fitted with thicker blades that will allow it to cut through larger stock.
Most woodworker's wouldn't put this type of saw on their priority list. A band saw (also called a bayonet saw) can accomplish most tasks (albeit roughly) that a scroll saw can accomplish.

There are a few things you should consider when you purchase a scroll saw:

1) Variable speeds - this can make a saw more expensive but its worth it if you can afford it. Speed control will allow for more accurate cuts.

2) A 2" cut depth is not unreasonable to ask for.

3) The more expensive units will have a dust clearance pipe. This blows away the dust from the cut area on the wood. (Please note that "dust collection" is not an option so don't look for it!)

4) Angled cutting is also handy. Some units will have this option and it allows for beveled cutting.

5) Where exactly is the ON/OFF switch on the device? For safety purposes, it should be easy to access (from the working side of the saw at least).

Why everyone should create building plans for their project

Before you begin a home remodel, you must first decide what exactly you want. Once you know exactly what you desire, then you must create building plans. Your contractors will then use these helpful plans during the construction. The plans basically let everyone know where the construction work needs to be performed.
