Love the Outlander series! I've re-read each book before the new one comes out, so I've read them a few time! Gerard needs some red hair before he plays Jamie.

I am a HUGE Diana Gabaldon fan. Her characters resonate for me as no others have and I am a voracious reader. People are skeptical when they hear the time-travel premise, but I URGE YOU to give it a chance, it takes a while to take off but..once you get deep into this book, you'll have to read the whole series!. If you love believable historical romance, if you had all but given up on good fiction (I had, for a long time) - if you felt like they were insulting your intelligence with unbelievable premise, you will feel like you have arrived at the Promised Land with these beautiful and very original books. She sets them deep in real historical events and pretty soon all you want to do is go away in a corner and immerse yourself in them. 1) Outlander 2) Dragonfly in Amber 3) Voyager and 4) Drumns of Autumn are my very favorites, but love all 7 of the current books and wait for books 8 and 9!

I'm not familiar with Diana Gabaldon and her work but thanks to this lens, I am now curious about the Outlander series.Looking forward to the movie version as well. You have made it sound very fascinating to me and I think you have done a great tribute lens for it. *blessed by an angel*

The only thing Jamie and James McAvoy have in common is that both are scottish. McAvoy is simply to cute. I like him as an actor, but I couldn't even imagine him chipping wood let alone be a feared warrior in the 45.

Though Gerard hits the 40s next month he still is the best choice even for the young Jamie. Lets be honest, no one could portray Jamie and all of his facets like Gerard could. And being so convertible it shouldn't be a problem to make him look like 23

I love these books! I don't know if any actor could come close to how I have Jamie pictured in my mind. He has to be tall, have red hair and a Scottish accent. He has to have the ability to be both tender and tough. Adrian Paul might have been a good choice but he may be too old now. Lensrolled to Men in Kilts.

Gerard Butler sadly is now too old to play Jamie. He's way too worldly to pull off an inexperienced 23 year old virgin. Come on! James McAvoy would be a good choice. Gabriel Aubrey is probably too pretty. I think (can't remember her name) the blond woman that played the mother in American Dreams and was the "older" woman on Desperate Housewives would be a good cast as the white witch. I also think Kate Beckinsale would be good as Claire as Claire was several years older than Jamie.

Oh it must be Gerard Butler!

My vote for Jamie is Rupert Penry-Jones. I know I'm in the minority here, but I have seen other people think of his as well. His face just popped into my head when we were first introduced to "Jamie MacTavish" in Outlander. *shrugs*

My second choice would be David Wenham...aka Faramir from Lord of the Rings.

    My two cents. ;)

My wife read these books when they were first released and then got everyone she knew--including me --to read them. Everyone that has read them has loved them. Great lens!

Ooooh! Chris Hemsworth would be great too:) I was going to suggest (as a pick for Jamie) Robert Buckley (from Lipstick Jungle): http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4018901504/nm2159347, or possibly Henry Cavill: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3621099008/nm0147147.

Anne Hathaway or Natalie Portman would make a great Claire, as would Rachel McAdams or Evangeline Lilly. Too bad some of the best picks for both roles--Ewan MacGregor, Gerard Butler, Rachel Weisz, and Kate Beckinsale, seem a bit out of the age range :(...They're still beautiful, but not in their 20's anymore...

OK%u2026 I've always pictured Gerard Butler as Jamie. None better! Unfortunately I must agree with some of the others, his maturity makes it awkward for him to play the young Jamie. Kevin McKidd was good HBO's Rome but as Jamie, he doesn't quite pull it off. As far as Claire, Keri Russell is spot on!

I recently saw a movie called Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. There was a tall (6'3"), young (3 years younger than Keri), handsome, sexy, romantic and smoldering actor named Lee Pace who played the part of Michael. He reminds me a bit of Clive Owen (too old). Henna and blue contact lens would cover Jamie's coloring. For those of you who beg for a Scot in this role, I apologize%u2026 he's American, but his IMBD bio show he's well trained. He pulled off a credible British accent to my American ears, so perhaps he can manage the Scots.

I haven't seen Lee Pace in anything else although he has a considerable list of credits. He may be the one with enough obscurity to overcome star issues.

Excellent lens! I am reading the third of these books and they are brilliant! Can't wait to find out what happens next.

Ooh - good point on the age thing and olden times being tough on them. Hmmm Maybe we should remind Diana ... Man, I'd love to see Gerry in that. He'd be ideal. But if it can't be him, I hope it's someone that none of us know, and I hope he's a real Scot.

What about Australian actor Chris Hemsworth for the role of Jamie? He's 6'3", handsome with blue cat-eyes and was just cast as the lead in the upcoming movie Thor. I'd like to see Kate Winslet or Rachel McAdams in the role of Claire.
  • Tasha May 30, 2009 @ 6:54 am | delete
I thoroughly agree, that Ruth Wilson, would make an awesome Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser.
  • Tasha May 30, 2009 @ 6:44 am | delete
He may no longer a 23 year old - but then weren't people in the 18 th, generally older looking than what we look, now? It would be quite reasonable for a 30 - 40 something year old man to play a 23 year old Highlander. Is that after all, not middle age for a Highlander?

I think that Gerard Butler would be a great choice to play Jamie!! But who will play Claire and the rest??? I have read and re read the whole series three times and can't wait for the new book!!!

Sounds like a great adventure book to read! I've never read Outlander book series before. I agree, Gerard Butler is definitely the best choice. Hopefully, I could get one for my next reading list. Fabulous five!

My vote is definately for Gerard Butler. He would make an excellent Jamie. I'm really looking forward to reading the latest book.

I love these books! And now I've got my mom hooked. I didn't know there was going to be a seventh book. Yay! But, honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about a movie. I like what I've conjured up my pea brain, especially as far as what Jamie looks like. :) Ewan McGregor though? Nahhhh, he's way too small. The others I'm not familiar with.

Anyway, very good lens on a topic near and dear to my mush-loving heart. :)
