My Squidoo Lensography

Welcome to my Squidoo lensography. I started on Squidoo to promote our on-line business and discovered one of the best online communities with some of the greatest people online. I was instantly hooked and inspired by all the great stories, and intrigued by the wealth of information resources offered by so many lensmasters. Squidoo gave me gave me the opportunity to help one of my favorite charities, The Salvation Army, by writing about my favorite areas of interest, which include arts, crafts, books, and my hometown of Chicago.

I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I have worked in the corporate world for over 35 years. I have also been associated with a few online businesses with my husband. I am very passionate about all kinds of crafts, from miniature painting to knitting and crocheting with vintage fabrics and yarns. I also love to sew and find it difficult to pass up a good piece of fabric. I love to read a lot of books and have developed a following for my favorite authors. My Husband also loves to paint in his spare time, mainly abstract art. Contrary to my husband, I still love the look and feel of a paper book. He gets mad when I reach for the good old Webster Dictionary, while he always uses the online Dictionary, yet there are instances when I love to use online resources, such as Wikipedia and the online Thesaurus.

I made Giant Squid in January of 2009 with the support of my husband, David. It was quite an accomplishment for me because of my hectic work hours. I thought it would take me a lot longer to achieve the rank of Giant Squid, but Squidoo is so much fun and the lens just continue to add up. My goal now is the Giant Squid 100. Squidoo offers so many tools and support to its lensmasters, which aspires me to try and achieve great heights on Squidoo.

My Kind of Town, Chicago

Chicago Featured Lenses

You will find the city's most popular pizzerias under Food Lenses, as well as about one of our other favorites, the Chicago Style Hot Dog. You can also learn about one of the city's most beautiful parks, and even a bit about Chicago's fascinating history. Although brief, it will be a personal and great summary of the fun places to see and visit in Chicago from a local's perspective. Please check back from time to time for additional updates and new lenses.

Chicago And It's Foods

Food Related Lens

Writing about food was an interesting experience. It was easy to describe what I loved about some of my favorite foods, but on the other hand, it was also a challenge for me to describe what made them so enjoyable to eat. Overall, it was fun researching and learning about the history of Chicago pizzerias and the Chicago style hot dog. I have so many other favorite foods so I know that from time to time I will definitely be adding future food lenses.

Book Lenses

Some of the books I have read

I love to read every chance I get. Since I take public transportation to and from work, it gives me the opportunity to immerse myself in a good book for close to an hour each way. I read everything from non-fiction, which recently have been auto/biographies, such as James Lipton, Charles Lindbergh, and Winston Churchill -- to fiction, which have included several series like The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter novels, Narnia series, Cormac McCarthy trilogy: All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, and Cities of the Plain; Isabel Allende novels to Jane Austen, John Steinbeck, Anton Chekhov, and John Irving novels. I also enjoy reading poetry, but long is the list of books I've yet to read, including the shelves of countless vintage books that I've picked up at book fairs throughout the years. I truly enjoy reading and always look forward to starting the next book.

Black & White Movies

Vintage Movie Lenses

Pass the popcorn and a box of Kleenex -- I could watch these oldies for hours. I have been a very passionate fan of the black and white movies since my early teens. Over the years, I have collected hundreds of movies, mostly oldies. I have boxes of them on VHS, bummer that went the way of the beta-maxx. So I started collecting them on DVD, but wait here comes Blu-ray. I think I will wait a while before collecting anymore movies.

Color Movie Lenses

Crafting As A Hobby

My Craft Lens

These are some of my lenses reflecting some of my pass-time hobbies. I love to sew and it was enjoyable trying other fun projects, such as sewing doll dresses. Later, I tried working with polymer clay and enjoyed making mini teapots, which I used to make and sell on ebay along with mini paintings that were purchased by doll house collectors. I also love fabrics and combined my love of fabrics with another favorite hobby of mine, knitting. The Handmade Knitted Purses are made by recycling some of my vintage fabrics I have collected over the years.

Office Work Lenses

Office Work Lenses, Skills and Experience

These lenses feature some background information on working as a legal secretary, and working as a paralegal, as well as some related skills and experiences. I also thought it would be interesting to make a lens on the obsolete skill called shorthand, which I still love to use to this day. I find it very amusing to see the puzzled look on a person's face when they watch me writing shorthand, and I'm always glad to answer any questions about this ancient skill. I've included some information about the aforementioned positions as well as the positive and challenging aspects of working with computers.

Writers and Authors Lenses

Background Information

These lenses describe the background of several writers and their published works. I've read the published works of James Lipton and Cormac McCarthy, which are described in more detail on their respective lenses. As for Vera Caspary, I read only one of her novels, Rebecca, which was later made into a movie that was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Rebecca is one of my favorite black and white movies, and I must admit that although I enjoyed the novel, I enjoyed the movie so much more.
