What Color Is Your Parachute

My Review

This book is the definitive career and job search manual of our century. It has been published so many times and in so many languages, there's a reason why people keep coming back. This book takes you through not only techniques on how to find a job, but also self-reflection and introspection on what job is best for your personal skills, values and interests.

What Color Is Your Parachute?

A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers

There is no book that is more vital to job-hunting in this economy than WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE? It has been honored and celebrated for nearly 40 years, but in our current global recession, the reason why it is so popular becomes painfully apparent: It works! People buy the book because it really, really works! Every year it has more timely and more helpful information than the year before, because it is updated, and often dramatically rewritten, for the current job market. But it always brings with it decades of experience and a worldwide network of contacts.

In good times, people use this book because it helps them find a new direction, change careers, and then move on with life. But it is in hard times that the book's true value is revealed. It teaches ways to find jobs when supposedly there are no jobs, and it provides a step-by-step plan (called the Flower Exercise) that gives people the edge over other job-hunters. Yes, in hard times like these, PARACHUTE becomes a lifesaver and a survival guide.

Love it! Great read.

Great book. I used it when it first came out, and have opened it affectionately since.

JodiVee says:

I've heard a lot of good things about this book and I've even skimmed through it, but I never bought it or read it through to the end. I've had much success with online job websites, but I'll definitely keep this book in mind for future reference.

EditorDave says:

I've been reading editions of this book since 1978 or so. Have at least 10 editions floating around my house ... and they are well-worn from reading. The content changes a lot each year... and although I don't buy one every year, when I'm out of work and looking for a new venue (aka "gig" or "job"), I'll get the most recent edition and start going through it. It's a great way to *find yourself* and find work that you love to do! This is a great lens--I've linked to it, favorited it, and lensrolled it to my lens on finding work! Thanks for a good resource!

Denice_Kronau says:

This is an oldie but goodie. Findling work that 'turns you on is a big part of being happy at work - which is my passion!

Sorry, not my cup of tea.
