1949 Mercury County Police Coupe - 1:32 Scale
1949 Mercury County Police Coupe - 1:32 ScaleAlthough it wasn't built specifically for that purpose, no car was more perfect for law enforcement than the completely restyled 1949 Mercury. It was priced right with the 2-door coupe still under $2000. It was fast with the 110 horsepower flathead V-8 the liveliest, smoothest engine around. The rigid heavily reinforced all-steel body made it as safe as any car on the road. Most importantly for parkway patrols, the independent front-suspension featuring "Soft-Acting" coil springs and "Sea-Leg" telescopic shock absorbers enabled the 1949 Mercury to hold the road and provide great handling at high speeds.

1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe Police Car - 1:32 Scale
1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe Police Car - 1:32 Scale1940 was not a particularly good sales year for Ford as Chevrolet outsold it 3 to 2. But as the years passed by, these beautiful Eugene Gregorie-desgined cars with their teardrop styling have taken their place among the most admired ever. Police departments flocked to the Deluxe Business Coupe (now referred to as the Opera Coupe) because of its $742 price and the power and economy of the 25mpg 85 horsepower V-8 engine. Later generations fell in love with the long deck and flowing body curves, making it the hot rodders favorite.

1934 Ford Tow Truck and 1932 Highway Patrol Coupe - 1:32 Scale
1934 Ford Tow Truck and 1932 Highway Patrol Coupe - 1:32 ScaleV-8 Engine Provides Dependability and Power
In the early 1930's, Ford's Model A, with its 4-cylinder engine, was outsold and outpowered by Chevrolet's Stovebolt 6. In 1932 Henry Ford shocked the automotive world by jumping right to a V-8 engine. It is no wonder the 1932 Ford is still celebrated 75 years later as the Little Deuce Coupe. Its 65-horsepower V-8 engine, classic look and rumble seat made it the most memorable car of that era.
By 1934 almost every Ford truck featured the V-8 engine, now upped to 85-horsepower. This pickup has been converted into a tow truck by repositioning the rear axle and adding a wood-look plank flatbed and chains. So popular was Ford's V-8 that in 1934 over 1 million cars and trucks were sold with that engine, an incredible accomplishment in the depths of the Great Depression.
