How a Diet for Multiple Sclerosis Helped to Improve my MS Symptoms

Respect your MS with a Diet for Multiple Sclerosis.

I was Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999 and up until now have never really talked about it too much. I guess I just ignored it, I pretended it wasn't there but don't get me wrong, I wasn't in denial. I knew I had it and from early on I was on the Beta Interferon injections three times a week. I have recently changed however to the once a week Injection which, at the beginning was great but is now causing me some problems...

What I did do wrong however was not give it any respect. I did not fear it but I reckon now with hindsight, this was a kind of ignorance. Then, almost four years ago I had to give up my work....At first it was a disaster, it had beaten me, and I was now at home with a young family and all the usual pressures of life.

Diet for Multiple Sclerosis

How what seemed Negative became Positive...

I guess the reason for writing this is to let others know that this situation doesn't have to be the end of the road...All is not lost and to be honest it wasn't very long before I began to turn this negative into a positive. What I had now that I never had before was TIME... and apart from our health, time must rank up there as pretty important. But it was what I did with this new found time that turned things around for me.

First and foremost I began to eat properly. For the previous fifteen years I ate on the run...a quick coffee here...a sandwich on my knee and a takeaway on the way home....Does this sound like a quality diet for anyone never mind a person with Multiple Sclerosis?

Secondly I was getting next to no exercise at all whilst working. Most of my time was spent in meetings or behind the wheel of the car. If at all able, gentle exercise is vitally important for MS sufferers.

Another major issue for me was fatigue. Whilst I couldn't see it at the time my way of life was increasing the numbers of relapses I was having. There were mornings when I left home at 5am not to return until 10pm that night. Not a great idea...

I now had the time to change all of that and that's what I set about doing....I needed a diet for multiple sclerosis. Put simply I had a proper breakfast, lunch and dinner freshly prepared. One of the issues I faced though, was what to eat and more importantly what not to eat. I had tried many different diets including one very famous diet for multiple sclerosis but I found most of them dull and boring and I began not even to look forward to mealtimes. As you may be aware polyunsaturated fats are needed for growth and repair of nervous tissue so I began to shift my fat intake from saturated to polyunsaturated. I had some success at this but to be honest it became a bit of a chore and after a while I fell back into my old eating habits.

At the same time I began a program of reflexology something that I had never contemplated before but from the very first session the benefits were enormous.

As I now had no job to go to I probably doubled the amount of sleep I had previously been getting. It goes without saying that this had a really positive impact on my overall wellbeing.

What Happened Next

A while ago however I discovered a diet program called Reverse Multiple Sclerosis It has completely changed the way I think about food and now I look forward to trying new ideas and menus.

The excercises are going well and I even joined a gym albeit that I don't give the machines too hard of a pounding. I have the benefit of being able to go mid morning when the gym is at it's quietest so lifting weights like a girl doesn't really matter when no one else is there...

I have decided to start this lense to maybe give some encouragement to others with MS. We all know there is no cure yet for MS but with a bit of work and some self sacrifice we all can improve our quality of life. Don't do what I did at the start. You need to give your MS some respect or before you know it, it will creep up behind you and bite you where it hurts.

I'll be adding more lenses over the next while so please check back for more bits and pieces. In the meantime make you diet easier and get yourself a copy of Reverse Multiple Sclerosis
Thanks for reading,
Gary

Obviously before starting any type of diet whether suffering from MS or not you should seek advice from your doctor or physician.">

Other Books worth having a look at.

I've added these particular books simply because they are ones I have read myself and found quite helpful. I have read many many books on MS, in fact at the beginning when I was diagnosed I remember going to the bookstore and coming home with six different books. You really don't need to read everything that's out there as a lot of it is more of the same. I have found it better to read books about a specific topic and MS, for example Exercise For Multiple Sclerosis is targeted and worthwhile. If possible you should try to keep away from the doom and gloom stuff...You just don't need that kind of reading in my opinion.
