My Dog Story

As you guys might have figured out, I love dogs! When I was a kid, I used to play with a lot of stray dogs which made my parents a tad worried about me.

When I turned 7 they decided it was time for me to get my first doggy as a pet. She was a Doberman Pinscher. Having her was one of the best things that happened in my life. She was fiercely protective of me and was ready to attack anyone who tried to mess with me. Such unconditional love... so hard to find in humans nowadays right ?

This lens is, in a way, a tribute to her. She passed away when I was in college. I didn't get a dog after that. But now, am just thinking of getting not one but two of em!

Looking forward to double the doggy memories....

Doberman Pinscher on Wikipedia

Want to know more about Doberman Pinschers ? Here's an article from Wiki which you might find helpful.

The Doberman Pinscher (alternatively spelled Dobermann in many countries) or Doberman is a breed of domestic dog originally developed around 1890 by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann. Dobermann Pinschers are among the most common of pet breeds, and the breed is well known as an intelligent, alert, and loyal companion dog. Although once commonly used as guard dogs or police dogs, this is less common today. In many countries, Dobermann Pinschers are one of the most recognizable breeds, in part because of their actual roles in society, and in part because of media attention (see temperament). Careful breeding has improved the disposition of this breed, and the modern Dobermann Pinscher is an energetic and lively breed suitable for companionship and family life.

Sporting Dogs

Sporting dogs are those which are used for hunting or finding game. These include breeds of :

1. Pointers
2. Setters
3. Retrievers, and
4. Spaniels

How to differentiate among these breeds of sporting dogs.

Pointers and Setters are generally used for game hunting. They smell the air to locate the birds and then help the hunter by pointing their body towards the game.

Retrievers pick up the already dead birds and bring them back to the hunter. They can retrieve birds from land as well as in water.

Spaniels help hunters by scaring off the birds from bushes.

Here are the different types of sporting dogs :

Hounds

Hounds have a great sense of sight and smell which makes them ideal for hunting (as well). Here too, there are different kinds :

Scent Hounds track the sense of an animal by running their nose to the ground.

Gazehounds or Sight hounds were bred to hunt game by sight. Examples of gazehounds are the Afghan hound and the Saluki.

Customer Reviews

Eck - "I actually purchased this stuffed dog as a "stand-in" for a live yorkie Toto in our youth theater's production of "The Wizard of Oz." When the order arrived, I was more than pleased with this little pooch. Not only did he look just like our real Toto, but the quality and detailing of the toy was fantastic. Its facial expression is quite life-like, its fur is super-soft, and its coloring is perfectly done. At a quick glance it could be easily mistaken for a real dog, and it is even cuter in person than in the picture. I had done a lot of online scouting for our stuffed Toto, and this one was, without a doubt, the perfect double!"

Toy Dogs

I find them the cutest of the lot. These type of breeds are really small. There are 17 small breed of dogs which fall under this category. In addition to these, Manchester Terriers are also considered as part of the toy group especially at dog shows.

The largest toy dog is the cavalier King Charles spaniel which weighs up to just 9 kilos!

Ross - "I loved this book. I exhibit and breed Pekingese dogs. Most books geared to dogs in general and toys have their own special needs. This book not only covers toy dogs in general, but the contents on specific breeds are right on the mark. Pekes have very unique problems and this covers all of them. I have shared information on this book with friends and with my vet. Just love it. "

Nonsporting Dogs

These dogs are kept chiefly as pets. There are about 13 breeds in this group. Nonsporting dogs were originally bred for work or sport. Poodles, for example, once retrieved ducks for French hunters. Dalmations were used originally to guard horse-drawn vehicles. But they were also used to herd cattle and hunt for game.

Cats or Dogs?

I would prefer a dog to a cat ANYDAY! Not that I hate cats, but dogs seem more loyal and friendly.

Dogs are way better than cats?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Absolutely. Cats cannot be trusted! They lack that connection with their owners and are only bothered about when and where they will get their food.

Shibamom says:

Paws down, it's dogs all the way for me.

Your-Pet-Store-With-More says:

At the risk of alienating cat lovers, I would have to say dogs. Although cats are cuddly, you can do more with a dog AND they'll cuddle with you.

SylviaD says:

Had dogs all my life... my mother had 2 cats at one point, but overall, I'd vote for dogs over cats. They're much more interactive and fun to have around.

PuppyTraining4You says:

I think dogs are more personal but I do have a cat that's pretty loyal.

Kapalbility says:

YES! Dogs are happy to see you arrive home, cats aren't. Dogs will protect you from bad guys, cats wont. Dog hairs do not give me asthma attacks, cat hairs do. OK, the last one could be biased, but hey, the first two reasons are good enough!

Yikes! Dogs suck. They aren't as cuddly and cute as cats!

mulberry says:

No way I could chose! (I'm putting my vote here because one of my cats is sitting here on the desk and though I'm fairly certain he can't read...one never knows with cats)

PetMemorialWorld says:

I like cats because you don't own them, they just let you feed them now and then.

Dkprincess6 says:

I have to say cats. I have both right now, but I grew up with more cats than I did dogs. I like how independent cats are.

mysticmama says:

Actually dogs are great...I just now like cats a little better since I got kitty Wompuss, but then again Maine Coons are very dog like, lmao
