My favorite pointers:

Just a thougth: Ask yourself what the purpose of your digging a story is. If it's to promote your blog/website make sure your Digg story is very close to the theme of the blog/website, otherwise people won't stick around or come back (it takes some time an energy to get your stuff up there, so don't waste your time!).

1. "Create 10 easy tips to help you [insert topic here] articles. Again, these are exceptionally easy to link to." - via SEO book.

2. Be sure to submit your article / blog post to delicious too, as stuff that is popular there often turns into great Digg stories. - Me

3. Creating Controversy: "Create content through a blog, article, report or statistics that challenges commonly-held beliefs or assumptions or specifically challenges the views of a very popular person or organization." - via SEO moz. I wouldn't make something for the pure fun of creating controversy, but giving people a reason to think about why they believe something is good.

4. Commenting. Find blogs that write about the topic you're trying to Digg and post insightful / interesting / controverial comments, linking to your story. Of course you should be honest, and you don't want to go around just spamming people, but getting into relavent conversations is smart and the right people will hear about your work.
