Digital Oximeter Introduction

Here you can find 29 unique digital oximeter units and locate a digital oximeter store that offers units for reasonable prices. Digital Oximeters are used to measure blood oxygen saturation levels and pulse rates. They are rapidly becoming a standard of care in most hospitals. Used in conjunction with blood pressure, respiratory rate, cardiac, and temperature monitoring, a digital oximeter helps to give providers a measurable picture of a patients vital signs. Since health conditions have been increasingly cared for at home, similar equipment used to track vital signs in the hospital are now being utilized for home health monitoring. A digital oximeter found in the hospital can cost several thousand dollars which makes those particular units to costly for home health use; however in the 1990's, manufactures saw the need for more affordable units and started to produce a smaller more affordable digital oximeter. Today prices range from $40-$200 for a finger digital oximeter for home use. Although less expensive than hospital units, digital oximeters for home use accuracy is comparable to hospital based units.

Nonin GO2 Achieve Fingertip Pulse Oximeter
Blue

I have been monitoring the oximeter market for two years now trying to keep up with new oximeters, changes, and price changes. Some things have been interesting to see and others fairly mundane. Today I found something that was actually fairly exciting in the world of oximeters. The price of the Nonin GO2 dropped to the $80 dollar range. The drop in price is exciting for several reasons.
1. Nonin is an American product.
2. Nonin has performed more extensive testing on their finger oximeters than any other company.
3. Nonin was the first to manufacture finger oximeters.
4. Nonin has the only oximeters that are rugged enough to be approved for the US military use.
5. Nonin GO2 has the same technology used in Nonin's hospital and military grade oximeters.
6. Nonin GO2 is warranted by the manufacturer so you don't have to worry if a store no longer is around to warranty your oximeter.
7. In the $80 range, the Nonin GO2 is priced the same as oximeters with less of a reputation and less quality.
8. If you don't think this is fact check out the link on Amazon (click the picture). Check out the oximeters I have listed. Pretty much any brand or model of oximeter is here. Go to Nonin's website and check out the other manufacturers websites. I'm sure you'll come to the same conclusion. The GO2 is the top pick. Prices in July were $99 dollars. Will the price go up or down who knows.

Digital Oximeter Brands

Three major of digital oximeter brands are: Nonin, CMS (Contec), and Octive Tech. Nonin was the first to produce a finger digital oximeter, has performed the most testing on their products, and is used most frequently by smaller health facilities due to their unit's durability. The first digital oximeter they produced was the Nonin 9500, which is still their most popular unit. CMS has a fairly divers line of digital oximeters. Their most popular unit appears to be the CMS 50 because of its multiple capabilities such a storing data to download into a computer for storage or to create charts. The CMS-50's capability makes the digital oximeter useful for trending conditions such as sleep apnea and chronic respiratory conditions. Octive Tech is another brand that offers multiple digital oximeter styles. They produce the 300C which is one of the most frequently reviewed digital oximeter units for home use. The affordability of this unit makes it easy for people on a fixed income to purchase a unit to spot check their oxygen levels. Although there are several other manufacturers producing digital oximeter units, they play a smaller role in the overall digital oximeter market.
