Elements of a Golf Swing

Golfers should have a mental check list of some of the basic elements of the golf swing before attempting a shot. The golfers body alignment relative to the target is the first basic element. To do this, stand about 5 to 10 feet behind the golf ball. The golf ball should form a straight line with yourself and the intended target. Pick out some targets on the ground to help guide you such as a shadow, tuft of grass, leaf, or whatever you can find. These should be a short distance in front of and behind the golf ball that give you a straight line with you, the golf ball, and the target you are aiming at. As you get into your address position over the golf ball, keep that line on the ground to the target in your site.

Now that your body is aligned, the club face needs to be aligned. To do this, place the center of the club face on a straight line between the 2 targets on the ground you picked out in front and behind the golf ball. Your grip on the golf club should be loose and relaxed. The golf club should fit in your fingers more than the palm of your hand. Your feet should be lined up parallel to the line your golf ball makes in its alignment toward your target. Your stance should be athletic, knees slightly bent, balanced and comfortable. Your front foot should be rotated a bit outward toward the target. This will allow your hips to rotate easily throughout the swing.

Tilt your torso slightly towards the ball while keeping your back straight. The arms should now hang freely in front of the body to grip the club. The shoulders should be parallel with the ground targets and the toes, and your head should be tilted downward with your eyes on the ball. These motions described are known as the set-up, or addressing the ball.

The back swing is step 4 of the golf swing. It is also known as the take away. This will be the start of the meat and potatoes of the golf swing. You want to rhythmically take the golf club back on the same plane of the straight line that your ground targets make. Make sure to keep your back elbow close to your ribs. The front elbow should be straight during the back swing. Your eyes should remain on the back of the golf ball, where you want to strike it with the golf club face. The back swing should inherently bring your chin into your front shoulder. The hips will stay quite and tilted a small amount forward. The front knee should also turn inward. At the height of the back swing, you should allow your wrists to break slightly to get ready for the next step of the golf swing.

Bring the club downward toward the ball, uncoiling the wrists, and shifting your weight onto your front foot. You should attempt to generate force and speed on your down swing, while never taking the club face off of the target line. Upon making contact with the ball, the club face should strike the ground as it moves through, taking a divot from the ground in the area past where the ball was lying, and through your second ground target.

Finish the golf swing with a nice, high follow through of the club. Your hips should be turned toward the target. Your weight should have shifted, and should now be firmly on your front foot. Smile and watch the ball fly toward the target.

HOW TO BUILD YOUR GOLF SWING - Part 3 of 9

Chuck Evans - Executive Director of Instruction - Medicus Golf Institute

BALL POSITION

Brought to you by http://www.GolfClubsHome.com

Ball position is the most misunderstood portion of the entire set-up. There have been many opinions about ball position. Some say one position for every shot, others say move it around depending on the club. All of the guesswork is taken out however if the golfer would set the club at address as the manufacturer designed it. All clubs, except for the Driver, are designed so that the grip end of the club is ahead of the clubhead if soled properly, this means the shaft leans forward, not vertical or backwards! If you address the ball, with say a 5 iron, and the shaft is vertical then even before you swing you've added loft and turned it into a seven iron! That same 5 iron is designed to have approximately 8 degrees of forward lean at address. The best players in the world, using that same 5 iron, have upwards of 15 degrees at Impact! This turns it into a 3 iron! Having said that you have the option of setting up to the ball with the shaft vertical as long as you can get into the proper Impact position...the shaft leans forward at Impact!

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER start with the shaft leaning backward!  We also need to cover where the ball is located in relation to the player's upper body, not the feet. The width of the stance changes during the course of a round but the width of the upper body does not. In addition, the target side shoulder socket is the low point of the arc and the fulcrum of the target side arm swing. Therefore the ball with a wedge will be in the center of the chest, in line with the sternum,  for full swing shots, the 5 iron under the target side of the chest, and the Driver at the low point, which is the shoulder socket. This could vary depending on whether the player has exceptionally wide shoulders, but for the most part these locations will be fine for irons but the target side shoulder socket IS the LOW POINT and the Driver MUST be played at this location for straight shots!  Back of this location produces a fade, with no manipulation, and forward of this location produces a draw, with no manipulation. You may see some players playing the ball back, or forward, of the target side shoulder socket but these players must either change the shoulder location at Impact, by leaning backward with the upper body, or must manipulate the clubface to hit a straight shot.

QUICK TIPS: Stretch Your Swing November 5th, 2007

by Jerry King, PGA
Director of Instruction
Kapalua Golf Academy

Presented by GolfClubsHome.com

We are all looking for more distance and accuracy with our full swing. A simple and effective way to produce a more consistent, penetrating ball flight is to create more "stretch" in your golf swing. "Stretch" in the golf swing can also be described as 'extension' or 'width'.

Golf stance setupGolf stance address

A creative way to visualize this powerful concept is to imagine a tight rubber band placed under the ball of the left foot (right-hander) and connected to the grip-end of the golf club.

Golf stance swingGolf stance turn

Start your swing and imagine stretching the rubber band "wide" with your left shoulder turning behind the golf ball with your left arm fully extended. At the completion of the takeaway, your back should be at the target with your arms directly in front of your chest.

A step further than simply using your imagination is to actually acquire a 3 to 4-foot strand of surgical tubing and feel this technique for yourself in real-time!

Here is another great way to feel this technique. Go to the nearest wall in your room or office. Place your palm on the wall with your arm extended shoulder high. This will determine the distance you stand from the wall. Take your address position with your arms folded across your chest and make a full shoulder turn. Then extend your arms and connect your hands like you are holding a club. Your goal is to touch the wall with your knuckles giving you the feel of "width" and weight transfer as you swing back. Practice these drills and you will be on your way to a wider and more productive swing!

IMPACT TIPS:
Hands Lead....Club Head Follows
by David Leadbetter

 Brought to you by GolfClubsHome.com

NOTE: To see the pictures that accompany this article, please go to GolfClubsHome.com/blog/

If we slowed down the swings of high handicappers as they reach impact, this is what we would see:

Scooping or hitting under the ball

The left wrist and arm breakdown, while the right wrist scoops under. A total breakdown like this at impact causes many golfers to flip at the ball, which causes a tremendous loss of power, direction and consistency.

Throwing actionThrowing actionThrowing action

Ben Hogan described the movement of the golf swing as almost like a throwing action or sidearm pitching motion. As I throw this ball, see how my right elbow is leading and my right wrist is bent back. This type of motion puts me into a position where I can release the ball much later for more power.

A total breakdown -- scooping or flipping action

Most golfers, on the other hand, release the club to early by letting the club head pass their hands.

A proper impact position -- hands leading clubhead

A better way to swing is to let your hands lead the club head through impact.

A proper impact position -- hands leading clubhead

A good idea to practice is to almost lean the club into the ground. Just put a little pressure on the club by using your body and open your hips up a little bit. Push forward so you can really feel that the back of your left hand is nice and flat. You should also feel that the back of your right wrist is angled as I'm demonstrating here.

You can practice this position by leaning a club up against the corner of a wall or golf cart tire. This little exercise will help you feel and sense this impact position much easier.

Here's a nice drill that will improve your impact position and help you make solid contact with the ball:

Impact drill: At address

Line up 6 or 7 balls in row. Grab your wedge and set-up to the closest ball in front of you.

Impact drill: BackswingImpact drill: At impactImpact drill: Finish

The whole key of this drill is to hit the ball before you hit the turf, so the divot appears in front of where the ball was lying on the ground.

Impact drill: Divots in front of the ball

Hit a few of the balls and notice where your divots are in relation to the ball line. All of my divots here start ahead of that line. What that tells me is that I've got the club into the correct position at impact -- hands leading the club head through the ball.

Save Over $1200 On Your Golf Clubs!

Summary:
Professional golfers use name brand golf clubs that are specially modified and fitted to their exact specifications. They also have a load of talent and practice practically every day for hours. Unless you fit into this mold, you are an amateur golfer probably looking for a way to save money in your favorite hobby. Here is a way to save quite a bit on what's in your golf bag and still come out ahead.

Article:
Brandt Snedeker fired a remarkable 63 in his final round at the 2007 Wyndham Championship with the help of his TaylorMade r7 driver. Now, you might be thinking that you should have what Brandt has in his golf bag. That way, you too can shoot a 63!

After you realize that no matter what set of golf clubs you have in your bag, you are not going to shoot a 63, except maybe on the front nine, you will come to the realization that your golf clubs are a great place to save a load of cash! Especially considering that Brandt probably didn't have to pay for his clubs.

Take a look at what he has in his bag and the cost of those brand name golf clubs. The total would be a whopping $1809.00. Now, you may have that kind of money to throw around on a new set of name brand golf clubs but for those that don't, there is an alternative.

Take a look at the clone golf club alternatives. The total for them is $535.00 for essentially the same golf club. That is a savings of $1278.00. Now that kind of savings would buy a lot of rounds of golf or the other rounds at the 19th hole.

Yes, the argument can be made that the name brand golf clubs perform better. That argument holds water if you are one of the top 100 or so golfer in the world. Odds are you are not. So, if you can't tell the difference between the name brand golf clubs and the clone golf clubs, why not save over $1200.00 to be like Brandt Snedeker?

Another argument that does not seem to hold water is that the name brand golf clubs are built to your specifications. This is definitely a good thing, but clone golf clubs can be just as easily built to your specifications for less. Any golf club can be built to your specification, no matter the name on the golf club. You should definitely have your golf clubs built to your specifications. Why not save the money and get more golf balls?

But what about the guarantee that comes with that name brand set of golf clubs? Well, guess what. Clone golf clubs can be obtained with a 30-day play guarantee. If you don't like the clubs after playing them for 30-days, return them. How many name brand golf clubs will let you do that? You can't lose!

Check out the prices for the name brand golf clubs in Brandt Snedeker's golf bag and the clone equivalent.

Hit That Golf Shot Low

from Jim Flick and the Golf Channel

Brought to you by GolfClubsHome.com

A significant part of being prepared to play is practicing different shots when you are out of play. By this I mean most of us have the strength to hit it over trees so we need to practice low shots to escape the trouble areas we get into. First, you want to step back and visualize the shot you would like to hit. It is amazing how many times we hit great shots from trouble because our visual commitment is so strong we react to it in a very positive way. I would like to hit this shot and pretend I am trying to keep the ball underneath the height of the clubhouse in the distance. To do this you play the ball well back in your stance, close the face slightly, make a three quarter swing, hit down on the ball, and try to turn it and make it draw. Then you can escape from trouble if you practice it and feel comfortable in executing the shot.

Golf Tips - The Mental Game

brought to you by GolfClubsHome.com

The game of golf is a game of skill and endurance, but there is also a mental component to the game that can separate a successful round of golf from a nightmare. The ability to clearly think through each and every shot, without becoming distracted or frustrated, is critical throughout the course of a five-hour round of golf. Most important, you have to perform self-therapy several times per round to keep your mind clear and focused.

The first, and perhaps most important thing to remember is that each shot must stand on its own. There is nothing you can do about the last bad shot that you hit, so do not dwell on it. Conversely, you can't think too many shots, or holes, ahead. You must play with the mindset that the most important shot of your entire round is the one you are preparing to hit.

It is important not to dwell on bad shots, but you should take ownership of your mistakes. Bad breaks can arise that are outside of your control, but you shouldn't be upset that a ball took a bad carom off of a tree, you should accept that a good shot on your part would not have hit the tree in the first place. You need not go through the five phases of death - anger, denial, bargaining, regret and acceptance - you should just go straight to "acceptance", and prepare to hit your next shot.

If you do hit a bad shot, you should spend the time walking or riding to your next shot thinking about what it was that you did to hit the shot poorly. Once you have analyzed your mistake, make a mental note of it, so you won't make the same mistake again in the future. Throughout the course of a round of golf, a golfer should also make mental notes of mistakes and aspects that he can work on at the practice range in between rounds of play.

Finally, remember to have fun. A day at the golf course is a long one, there is plenty that can go wrong from the very first tee box, but stay focused on why you are there - to enjoy the day and play a game. It is a fun game to play, and even more fun when you are playing the game well, so remember to put in the hours of practice required to improve your game. If you have not taken the appropriate measures to prepare yourself for success, then you should lower your expectations of your performance, and play just to enjoy the day with good company.

Your Personal Primer Course on Golf Clubs
by Kevin T. Fairbanks of GolfClubsHome.com

Golf clubs are usually considered a set consisting of a driver, fairway woods, irons and putters. The advanced golfer would have at least a driver, metal fairway woods, irons and a putter in their golf bag. The trend lately has been to replace some of the longer irons and fairway woods with hybrid golf clubs.

According to the rules of golf, as set forth by the United States Golf Association (USGA), a golfer's bag may hold 14 clubs. Most golfers will carry a driver, two fairway woods, 7 irons, 3 wedges and the putter. Each golfer has their own preference for the mix of golf clubs that comprise the 14 golf club limit. As mentioned earlier, some longer irons and fairway woods have been replaced in recent years with hybrid golf clubs.

A driver is a long-shafted club with a full head used to strike the ball that is set upon a tee. The club head does not have much lift to it, to achieve maximum distance off the tee. The club head on these golf club drivers is limited in size. Most brand name drivers cost between $200 and $400. For the budget-minded golfer, discount golf drivers can be purchase for much less. The price for discount golf club drivers can be less than $100.

Sometimes referred to in modern days as metal woods, these clubs have more lofted club heads than drivers. A set of fairway metal woods, consisting of a 3, 5 and 7 wood, can run anywhere from $150 to $300. A set of discount golf woods would provide quite a savings over name brand golf clubs. A typical use of the fairway metal wood is a second shot on a par 5 golf hole or for accuracy off the tee on a narrow fairway.

Most amateur golfers have a hard time hitting the longer golf club irons and fairway woods. Hybrid golf clubs were designed to combine the best features of the longer golf club irons and fairway woods. Even professional golfers are now adding hybrid golf clubs to the golf clubs in their golf bag. Hybrid golf clubs can run as much as the price of a driver. The budget conscious buyer should be able to find discount prices on clone hybrid golf clubs, or sometime known as knockoff hybrid golf clubs.

The busiest group of golf clubs is the golf club irons. Most of the shots will use an iron in a typical round of golf. Golf club irons are used to hit the golf ball from a normal range of 125 yards to 225 yards out from the putting surface. The golf club iron sets have clubs numbered from 2 through 9. The higher the club number, the higher the loft, the shorter the shaft and the shorter the distance of the shot. A 9 iron would result in a high, arcing shot close to the putting green, around 125 yards or so. A 2 iron would result in a low, long shot of around 225 yards.

Golf club wedges can be part of the golf club iron set purchase. Normal golf club wedges include a pitching wedge, the sand wedge and different lofts of lob wedges. These golf club wedges are used for shots that are within 100 yards or closer to the green. These shots are sometimes referred to as the money shot because they should get you very close to the pin. The number of wedges carried by the golfer is dependent upon their particular golf game and their strengths and weaknesses.

Golf club irons have two primary types to choose from. For the lower handicapped golfer, forged irons enable shaping of golf shots for easier draws and fades. For the higher handicapped golfer, cavity-backed golf club irons are more forgiving on off-center shots, have a larger sweet spot and allow the golfer to hit straight shots easier. A set of golf club irons is usually considered a 2 through 9 iron, a pitching wedge (PW) and a sand wedge (SW). This set of 10 irons can range in price from $250 up to and over $1,500. Knockoff golf irons would provide similar quality for a significant savings. These are also known as clone golf club irons or discount golf club irons.

Arguably, the most valuable golf club is the putter. This golf club, the putter, will be the most used golf club of all golf clubs. It is used on every hole, most of the time more than once per hole. The golf club putter has the single purpose of getting the golf ball rolling and into the hole in the least number of putts.

Golf club putters have really transformed in the last few years. Conventional putters have given way to mallet putters, alignment-type putters, belly putters and more, with any kind of combination of all of these. Since this golf club is used the most and is so important, many golfers search endlessly for a golf club putter that they are comfortable with and confident in using. Prices for discount or clone putters can be around $20 with name brand, complex putters running around $300.

The Cloud Nine Series from GolfClubsHome.com

GolfClubsHome.com has come out with a new series of clubs that may be some of the nicest clubs they have ever offered. The new C9 series features high quality materials and the latest technology. Although slightly more than GolfClubsHome.com's other models, the C9 series uses the same materials and design technology as nationally advertised tour player brands costing 4 times as much. This should mean great performance from the C9 series for you and your golf game.

Irons
The C9 irons are the most advanced iron design GolfClubsHome.com has sold to date. These super game improvement irons feature a 6-4 Titanium face insert. This technology has several design advantages for cavity backed irons. First, it allows most of the clubhead mass to be concentrated around the perimeter of the iron head creating a larger sweet spot for more forgiveness. Second, Ti faces can be made thinner than stainless which maximizes COR or ball velocity. A 20 gram tungsten insert was added to the toe to balance the iron head and lower the center of gravity. This creates higher, straighter golf shots. This is a high-tech iron at a fraction of the cost you'd expect to pay.

Hybrid
The nicest hybrid with the hottest technology that GolfClubsHome.com sells. The C9 475 features a Carpenter 475 super steel face combined with a 17-4 stainless steel body. Combined with a tungsten sole plate this club delivers unparalleled performance and quality. GolfClubsHome.com says that C475 steel produces the hottest, longest hitting clubhead faces they have tested. The tungsten sole plate creates a very low center of gravity for higher, softer landing shots. Hybrids are hot and these are some of the hottest.

Woods
The C9 c455 Metal wood brings high technology to fairway metals. The ball literally explodes off the c455 forged variable face thickness design. Carpenter Technology Corporation, the world renowned steel manufacturer patented its proprietary c455 stainless alloy to be strong and durable. This allows the face to be forged thinner that traditional stainless metals, the result is more ball velocity and longer golf shots. The 3 woods have a slightly larger head than standard which makes it a good choice from the tee on tight holes.

Driver
An understated design conceals core technologies that make the C9 VFT Composite Ti driver an exciting new introduction. A variable thickness face is milled to expand the sweet spot making this an excellent choice for the player that does not have time to practice often. Beta 5-3-3-3 Ti is cut from the crown and filled with an advanced carbon fiber that allows weight to be redistributed to the sole creating a trajectory that optimizes spin rates on today's high performance balls. Titanium crown structure gives added support and reduces distance loss due to crown deflection. The titanium support also creates a solid impact sound that is sometime missing from other composite crown drivers. Sound is important and the C9 Ti sounds solid.

If you're looking for the latest technology in golf clubs but not ready to spend your kids inheritance to do it... you might want to consider the GolfClubsHome.com Cloud Nine series. These are great clubs at a great price. Like all GolfClubsHome.com clubs you can use their eFit System to get custom fit and choose shafts and grips from the best names in the golf business. You also get a risk-free 30 Day Play Guarantee. Pretty hard to go wrong with that scenario. Give them a try.

The Power Max GX920 Series from GolfClubsHome.com

The GX920 irons have been GolfClubsHome.com's biggest seller for over a year. Now they've added several new clubs to the series that allow golfers to find GX920 quality and forgiveness throughout their sets. With the addition of a driver, a fairway wood, hybrids and high launch irons, the GX920 series now offers a complete playability solution. All the new GX920 feature the best materials including 17-4 stainless steel, beta titanium, and use only quality manufacturing techniques.

The hallmark of all the Power Max GX920 clubs is a thin face that optimizes distance. A thin face means a greater COR (Coefficient of Restitution) where the ball tends to spring off the face with more speed. This hotter face leads to more distance.

Two Iron Choices
The irons now offer two choices. The Original GX920 irons offer a proven notch-cavity design that provides less twisting and more stability on mishits. A thick topline and wide sole make this a very forgiving club for both average golfers and better players seeking a little more playability. Better players will notice that although very forgiving you can still work the ball in all directions with the GX920s.

The New GX920 High Launch irons add an extra dose of forgiveness by adding an even wider sole. This lowers the center of gravity and increases Moment of Inertia (MOI). This makes getting the ball up in the air easier than ever while increasing clubhead stability on mishits. This club is great for the low to mid handicap player and anyone with a slower swing speed who would like to get a little more altitude on their shots.

New Driver and Woods
The New GX920 Driver is a great compliment to the irons. The high-rebound thin face maximizes distance and the forged beta titanium head surrounded by a carbon fiber top puts the center of gravity where it can do the most good. It all adds up to quality, distance and forgiveness in a beautiful package.

The GX920 Fairway Wood fits right in. The hot-faced technology, slightly larger head, and longer length means you'll have a club that can go the distance... from the fairway or off the tee. This is one nice fairway wood that finally brings modern driver technology to the second longest club in your bag.

New Hot Hybrid
Hybrids are hot and the GX920 Hybrid is one of the hottest around. The thin face once-again maximizes ball speed and the wide sole makes it easy to get the ball up. The result is long, high, sweet ball flight that lands softly and stays put. And did we mention how easy it was to play the GX920 from bad lies and the sand. Altogether a great long iron replacement.

The GX920 club series from GolfClubsHome.com now offers a complete solution for every club in the bag. As always, with GolfClubsHome.com you can mix and match any combination of clubs until you find the perfect combination for you and your game. Like all GolfClubsHome.com clubs you can use their eFit System to get custom fit and choose shafts and grips from the best names in the golf business. You also get a risk-free 30 Day Play Guarantee. Pretty hard to go wrong with that scenario. Give them a try.

GolfClubsHome.com Introduces the Power Max Revelation
Hybrid Iron Set

Press Release

Summary: Golfing has become more and more popular around the world. Golf equipment is not really affordable for the average person. Discount golf clubs offer an alternative that provides affordable golf equipment and quality. Savings like those offered by discount golf clubs provide the opportunity for more people to enjoy the sport of golfing.

With the upcoming golf season rapidly approaching, or already in full swing for your area, GolfClubsHome.com is proud to introduce the Power Max Revelation golf club hybrid iron set. These irons use four different iron technologies to provide forgiveness and playability in every club from the golf wedges through to the long irons.

The idea behind the engineering of the Revelations is to offer a seemless progression of game improvement features. The scoring clubs offer accuracy and control in a traditional format. And as you move through the mid irons to the long irons more forgiveness is progressively added. And all clubs are oversized to produce the largest sweet spot possible. No wonder hybrid golf clubs are being used more and more on the professional golf tours.

The 9 iron through sand wedge offer a slight offset and perimeter weighting to insure accuracy and solid ball striking. Their traditional looks and solid feel create confidence while offering plenty of forgiveness. Confidence in these golf clubs offers the regular golf better shots in the scoring area!

The 7 and 8 irons offer a bit more sole weight to get the ball up easier. The cavity back and extra wide sole make these clubs move through the turf smoothly. Even "fat" shots will provide more accuracy. The higher trajectory means softer, more accurate shots to the green.

The 5 and 6 mid irons feature a hollow core design producing maximum forgiveness and a high trajectory to help hold those greens on par 3s. A moderate offset helps square the club at impact. These are some of the easiest to hit mid irons you will ever find. Rather than trying to hit a 5 or 3 wood, these hybrid mid irons will give you better shot making for those medium length shots.

For the 3 and 4 numbered clubs the Revelations feature full-bore hybrid technology in a beautiful package. These clubs ooze forgiveness. High ball flight and smooth-through-the-turf soles mean these clubs will make older technology long irons a distant memory. Place your shots for the best chance of getting to the fairway or green and into the scoring zone!

Only the finest 17-4 stainless steel and most modern manufacturing techniques are used in these clubs and like all GolfClubsHome.com clubs feature a full one year warranty and 30 Day Play Guarantee. Free shipping is also included with these clubs. Many testimonials can be found for our great service and high quality product.

GolfClubsHome.com's online store features a complete line of custom clubs offering models that make the game more enjoyable for every level of golfer. Contact GolfClubsHome.com via their website www.GolfClubsHome.com.

Hybrid Clubs-why the fuss?

What's up with these new hybrid clubs? Everyone is talking about 'em these days. Are they really the game saver that all the hype seems to say?

The fact is, clubs like hybrid type clubs have been around a long time. They used to go by names like "baffler" and "rescue clubs" or just plain utility woods. So are they really something new? Well, yes and no.

The hybrid as we know it today was actually developed with the help of Gary McCord, the TV announcer and former PGA pro. He saw his golf buddies back home struggling with their long irons, so he thought maybe something could be done to make them easier to hit. He went to his sponsor, TaylorMade and suggested they come up with something new.

The result was the TaylorMade Rescue. The first of a new breed. So what the heck did they do to make this new club?

Well, it's called a "hybrid" because it a combination of a wood and an iron. They basically took an iron shaft and and put a new kind of head on it. That head would have features of a wood. Features like a wide sole, low-back center of gravity, and more mass. So what's so different about that? Why not just get a 5 or 7 wood.

The big difference is that shaft. The loft of a 2 iron and a 5 wood may be about the same...but the shafts are way different.

The shaft length on a 2 iron for an average height player is about 39 inches. The length on a 5 wood is about 42 inches. Hybrids are somewhere in between. A longer club will always go farther because a longer club will produce more clubhead speed. That extra speed will also tend to make the ball go higher. The problem with that extra speed is it can make the club harder to control.

Iron shafts are also thicker than wood shafts. I bet you didn't realize that. Not a lot (.03 inches), but enough to make the shaft more stable which adds up to a bit more accuracy.

Starting to get confused? Well here's the bottom line.

Compared to a comparably lofted wood, a hybrid club is:

  • more accurate
  • won't go quite as far
  • easier to hit because it's shorter
  • Compared to the same long iron, a hybrid is:

  • easier to hit because the head has more mass and a lower center of gravity
  • will make the ball go higher, carry further and land softer
  • better out of sand and bad lies
  • Hopefully that clears up any confusion.

    So which ones to buy?

Today's hybrid clubs are actually quite varied. In addition to a choice of lofts, you can also get different sole widths and face heights. You can get lengths that are longer than standard irons and shorter or just as long as woods. In short, some hybrids offered are more like fairway woods and some are more like irons. Just remember the basic rules of club design...the lower and farther back the center of gravity, the higher the ball will tend to fly. The longer the shaft the farther the ball will go but that extra length may make it harder to control. Remember to make your selection based on what your game needs not the manufacturers hype.

Price ranges for brands are in the $150 to $250 range. You can find custom clone versions for under $50.

Give those hybrids a try. They're bound to help your game.

The New Square Drivers - Fact or Fad?

You've probably heard about the new square drivers. Everyone's talking about them this month. But will they be talking about them in 6 months? Time will tell. But here's the facts on the technology behind them and what they mean to your game.

The idea behind the technology is that when you move the weight in the club head away from the club face you create a more stable golf club that won't twist on mishits. This is called greater Moment of Inertia (MOI). Greater MOI should lead to more stability and theoretically make the ball go further and straighter. I guess you could say manufacturers have gone to extremes with the theory and this new square design.

One reason manufactures have gone this direction is because the USGA has put a limit on head size and the rebound effect of the club face. The head has been limited to 5" by 5". That means the last place manufacturers have to move weight to are the corners of the club. The face is already relatively square so the back corners are what's left. Thus the square headed drivers.

Both Callaway and Nike have already come out with clubs using this concept. Nike has the SQ Sumo and Callaway has the FT-i. Not many pros are using them although K.J. Choi won with the Sumo last fall. We haven't heard if Tiger, a Nike endorsee, will be using the Sumo. Should be interesting to see. Many pros are not using them because they say they go too straight. Thankfully many of us "normal" golfers won't have that problem.

Component clubmaker Tom Wishon, who wrote the book, "The Search For The Perfect Golf Club," wonders if this square technology and the chase for high MOI is really another type of chase...to win the golfer's dollar.

Wishon said since golf companies have hit the limits for face rebound speed and head size, now the race will be on to figure out who can get the MOI to the specified limit. But he wonders if golfers who already have drivers that have a reasonable high MOI currently will notice much of a difference with the new geometrically challenged breed of clubs.

However, Golf Digest in its recent club test gave the new square drivers high marks. It gave the Callaway an Editors Choice award and also ranked the Sumo highly. One Golf Digest tester said about the Sumo..."It has a nice high ball flight...Better players would rate it a 6 out of 10, but high-handicappers might like it." What that says to me is it's straight and long but might have too high of a ball flight for a really fast swinging golfer. I think us normal golfers will take straight and long anyday.

The Sumo has been reviewed on some golf forums. On GolfMagic.com, Bob Warters and his buddies took the Sumo and a clone version out for a test ride. They said all the clubs were long and straight and might actually live up to the hype. In particular he mentioned..."It's not perhaps what a leading manufacturer like Nike Golf would want to hear, but first impressions comparing the company's latest SasQuatch Sumo 2 (square-headed) drivers and a cheaper copy - the Turbo Power XQ MUTO 460Ti - detected little difference in performance." With the new brand drivers selling for between $400 and $500 dollars and the clone selling for under $100 it makes you wonder if all those endorsement dollars are getting a little out of hand. I guess that's a discussion for another time.

So it looks like the technology has promise. The only way to know for sure it to give it a try. GigaGolf offers the above XQ MUTO for $99. It's technology is based on the Nike Sumo. GigaGolf offers the MUTO with a top-of-the-line shaft and grip. Might be worth a try.

Well get ready golfers. The square headed drivers are here and you'll get to see if they are worth the money and the hype. Come back here often and we'll keep you up to date on how they work out.

Discount Clone Golf Clubs - Save Your Money for the 19th Hole!

Golf is an expensive game. Buying name-brand golf clubs is expensive. Why not explore the option of discount clone golf clubs? They offer the same options of name-brand golf clubs, but cost much less. For the average to better more experienced golfer, discount clone golf clubs will work no diffrently than name-brand golf clubs.

Anyone who plays golf knows the sport is not at all cheap. With membership fees, golf green fee costs, golf shoes, golf clothes, golf clubs, golf carts and golf balls, even a minimalist wishing to play has to fork out a small fortune. With the availability of clone golf clubs, there is now an area where you can keep some money in your own pocket and still achieve the same results on the course.

It can be boring if you finish a great game of golf, but don't have any money left over for a beer or glass of wine at the end. You want to save money where you can for the social side of golfing. Instead of buying over priced brand name golf clubs, why not get clone golf clubs instead, and save money for a bit of fun with your golfing friends?

Clone golf clubs are not golf clubs made to OEM or original manufacturer standards as some people suspect. They are in fact clubs made to their own specifications and own use of modern technology. Clone golf clubs are made from quality materials and can also be custom designed for your specific and individual requirements.

Brand name golf clubs such as Callaway, Ping, Nike, Taylor Made or Titleist are very expensive and only golfers with money to burn can really afford to buy them. A famous pro golfer once said "The ball can't tell the brand", which is true and means people are only buying expensive, over-priced clubs to show off to their peers and advertise their wealth.

If you can't afford to buy your name-brand golf clubs with cash up front, maybe you are buying out of your league. You could get clone golf clubs that do the same job for half the price or less. Value does not mean low quality, it just means low prices for a product that performs just as well. The clone golf clubs have proven themselves to be reliable, long-lasting and made with quality design and modern technology.

Clone golf drivers are less expensive without compromising the quality or size of the club head. Whether your game is to try the new age square driver heads or you prefer the traditional shaped drivers, you will find a clone golf club that is similar to the name brand for considerably less money. The price you would expect to pay for a clone golf driver is around $70 - $100. The same goes for other clubs such as golf woods, golf hybrids, golf wedges and golf putters. The range of clone golf clubs is versatile and the clubs are stylish, new age and high quality.

You will always play golf with a smile on your face when you know you haven't had to pay a fortune for your clubs. Within reason, if the clubs you are using are the right specifications for your size, once you are used to using them, you can master how to play with them. It doesn't matter if you spend $70 or $700, this is still the case. Next time you need a new club or set of clubs, choose clone golf clubs - you won't be getting second best, you will just be paying less!

Great lens, I am sharing links with solid onfo sites liek yours. Come see mine, please. I made it be cause as much as I like the new clubs that are coming out, I think people should be shopping for used clubs. With my site, http://www.buysellgolfclubs.com, and sites like ebay and craigslist, there is no reason to pay 5 times the price for a new club. Heck, most of the "used" clubs I see were never used.
