For me the Animal Kingdom Lodge has a special place in my heart. It was the first Walt Disney World hotel I ever stayed in, and was where we spent our honeymoon. My husband and I love to spend time watching the wild animals roam the grounds and plan to spend many more vacations there in years to come thanks to the Disney World Vacation Club program.

Others prefer the over sized icons of the All-Star Resorts where you can swim in a guitar shaped pool.

Once you have decided to stay in a Disney World hotel you will need to think about where in the Resort you would like to spend your vacation. Walt Disney World hotels are located throughout the Resort and are usually grouped around one of the theme parks. If the Magic Kingdom is your favourite park you should consider one of the following hotels.
Disney's Grand Floridian Hotel
Inspired by Florida's Victorian seaside resorts, this is Disney World's flagship hotel. The beautiful buildings are reminiscent of nineteenth-century Victorian architecture and stand in 40 acres alongside the Seven Seas Lagoon. The Grand Floridian hotel boasts a white sandy beach, swimming pools and a watersports marina. Many guests will awake to the sight of the Cinderella Castle as the Magic Kingdom is a short Monorail ride away. The three remaining theme parks can be reached by Monorail or Disney bus. The service at this hotel is out-standing, and food connoisseurs will appreciate the full-service restaurants, including the infamous Victoria & Albert's where fine dining whisks you well away from the world of Mickey Mouse.
Disney's Polynesian Resort
If the South Pacific tropics are more your style you'll love the Polynesian hotel. Guest rooms are built in Hawaiian Longhouses, and set around the Grand Ceremonial House where you'll find shops and restaurants, and a rain forest in the lobby. This resort also nestles alongside the Seven Seas Lagoon and has it's own sandy beach and volley ball courts. With an on site Monorail station the Magic Kingdom is just a short hop away. If you plan to visit the other parks during your stay the Transportation and Ticket Centre and Epcot Monorail station is just a short walk away.
Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort
Situated on the shores of Bay Lake and a short boat ride away from The Magic Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe resort influenced by the national-park lodges of the early twentieth century. This resort is impressively themed and is also the home of Disney World Vacation Club guests. You can truly escape from reality in the hotel lobby where you can sit in a rocking chair by an 87-foot stone fireplace, or marvel at the two 55-foot Pacific Northwest totem poles. Outside you'll find a beach area as well as a swimming pool made to look like a mountain stream, complete with waterfall and geyser.
Disney's Contemporary Resort
With it's unique A-frame design that allows the Monorail to pass right through the lobby, the Contemporary hotel is one you'll either love or hate. This striking building boasts fantastic views of either Bay Lake or the Magic Kingdom and fireworks fans can enjoy the nightly Wishes Spectacle from the rooftop terrace. Disney's Contemporary Resort is within easy walking distance of the Magic Kingdom and a Monorail ride away from Epcot.
