Have a right royal birthday

The Disney Princesses have been in our hearts since Walt Disney introduced Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Tales of Disney Princesses give little girls dreams of castles and Prince Charming, that anything is possible. They give us the feeling that all of our dreams will come true.

This lens has multpiple pages. Menu at the top!

It's no surprise that Disney Princess birthday themes are so very popular. There are so many options for decor, food, invitations, and cake. Oh the cake. It's the centerpiece of any birthday party. It can be grand and beautiful. The possibilities are endless with cake. With all the combinations of cake flavors, colors, icing, and design, you can have thousand of Princess parties and never have the same cake twice.

Here are just a sampling of the stunning Princess cakes I have found. Maybe you will get inspired to have your own Princess party just to be able to have a cake like one of these.

Once upon a time...

Oh how things have changed

Did you know that cakes made for real Princesses centuries ago weren't like the ones we serve today? They didn't have plastic toppers or buttercream frosting. Old world cakes were more bread-like and were sweetened with sugar and honey. They usually had fruit or nuts added.

In medieval times, people would hide things like coins and thimbles in the cake batter. It was believed that the person who found the coin would enjoy wealth all year while the unfortunate person who found the thimble would never marry. Some traditions, like making a wish and blowing out the candles in one breathe, have lasted through the years.

Simple Princess Ideas

There are other ways to incorporate a princess birthday cake theme that aren't very complicated. You just have to think outside the box.

Where Dreams Begin

Start with accessories

Get creative

Having a princess cake doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of money. You don't even have to be very talented. If you don't have a lot of money to spend then make the cake yourself. Don't freak out. You don't have to make a castle or a princess from scratch. Who says you need those things anyways?

A great way to make a big impression is to start with a basic sheet cake. You can bake one yourself or buy one. You can make the icing pink and add accessories.

You could add a crown or tiara to the top of the cake. Sprinkle it with edible candy pearls or glitter. Lay a wand on top. Use sparkler candles for added flare. Try setting a couple of princess figurines on the top. There are so many easy things
you can do to have a princess feel without all the hassle.

Liven up the table with confetti, glitter or even plastic jewels. Use your imagination and have fun.

This is one of the prettiest castle cakes I have seen and it can be done at home. I think this is a real bargain. My local cake shop charges over $150 for a two-tier sponge castle cake so making it at home can really save money.
