Factors for Online Learning Success
Differences in the way that distance education is delivered and acquired require students to make adjustments and changes in their approach to their studies.
First - Select the right distance learning school for your learning style.
Successful learning starts with right distance learning college or university. Beware! There are many "degree mills" that want to sell their degrees without providing an education nor any student support. As a result, degrees offered by these "institutions" may not be recognized, or may sometimes even be regarded as bogus degrees. Be certain the the college or university at which you want to enroll is properly accreditated before you register. Many well-known, top universities now offer the same education online as they do at their campus locations.
In addition, find out in detail how the coursework is delivered. Are there webcasts or podcasts? Videos, book, etc. What type of materials, and are their lectures or are you on your own with learning? What type of student support do they offer, if any?
Determine the Cost Benefits
Earning your degree from a well-known institution that is fully accredited will be more valuable to you in the job market than a degree from an unknown school. Getting an education can be costly, however, these costs should be compared with the potential additional income that can be generated from the degree, once earned.
Be Disciplined, Determined and Employ Good Time Management.
Many students simply lack the discipline and focus to keep up with online lessons and assignments that are self-paced. Distance learning students must have the determination and discipline to succeed. Good time management is also essential for success.
Take Advantage of Credit Transfers, Credit for Life or Work Experience.
Mnay online colleges and universities will grant students credits from other courses that they had taken from other universities or colleges. Therefore you will not have to repeat courses already completed in the past. You will have to obtain transcripts and results from previous schools and send them to the distance learning online university to obtain credit transfers. In addition, some online colleges will grant credit for life or work experience, so do your research.
Use Technology
The final element for distance learning success is to make full use of the conveniences that technology has to offer. Many online colleges and universities provide online research resources, virtual libraries and online books. Use these facilities to the fullest.
