Since DivX technology enabled the shrinking of video file size, many people have been downloading movies over the internet. Although DivX decreases the size of video files by a factor between 6 and 10, any decrease in video resolution has been hardly detectable.
Many peer-to-peer server networks have sprung-up enabling people to download DivX movies and share files of all types. The downside of these networks includes the risk of getting a computer virus, spyware and/or adware inadvertently installed on your machine. Also, due to the rather makeshift construction of these sites, people can often end up with a wrong or defective file. Remember, it's illegal to download copywrighted material, and the FCC has had it's sights set on peer-to-peer file sharing for a while.
